Hello! My name is Jerry Carter. I just bought a 69 skylark for $750 running. The spring on the choke is rusted so I figured I would buy a new carberator. The sticker under the hood has 400cid and 2bbl. I know it has a 400 in it but I have never heard of a 400 having a 2 bbl carb on it. If anyone knows anything about this please inform me.

    Thanks,
    Jerry

Hi Jerry - Welcome to the V8Buick Community

In 1969 the Skylark was available with 3 different engines - the L6 Chevy 250 straight six cyl., a low compression (8.5) 350-2 barrel, and a 350-4 barrel. The GS and SportWagon were the only cars to receive the 400ci motor - all the big cars (Rivs, WildCats, and Electra/LeSabre) either got the 350 or the 430. NO 400's or 430's came with a 2-barrel carb.

One of the eiasest ways to tell the small block from the big block is by the valve covers - If the covers have 6 bolts, it's a 350, 5 bolts it's a BBB

What makes you think it is a 400 ?? the air cleaner label ?? valve cover label ?? Of course these could have just been "stuck" on there.....

Have you removed the air cleaner to see what kind of carb. it ls ??

Don't be afraid to ask even the simplest questions - You've found a new home here (and hopefully at the BPG, Buick Performance Group). Here, there are no silly or "dumb" questions - just lots of helpful information and good friendships to be made

    Welcome !!

The sticker above the radiator says 400 ci 2bbl. As you can tell I am kinda new to this stuff. Thanks for the info.I'll find out more when I look at the car. The car is at my moms house.
