From the looks of the surrounding area I am living very close to that car and never knew it was here. Maybe I know the seller and don't even know it. Anyone want me to take a look at it?
From the looks of it, it hasn't been on the road in a while, but if the important stuff is there, it is doable, with of course the time & $$$, but others around here would know more about that than I.
You just want to go see it before it leaves.:bla: I don't know if there is anything you would be able to tell. My only questions would be does it need a frame, and will it get by with just a rear clip or re-body? That stuff you really find out once you get it all apart... It is just refreshing to see one totally documented for once!:kodak:
After reading the Q&A's of the auction,it looks as if the whole frame is shot with holes in the front and rear.
So if the frame is shot in the front and rear cannot you take the boxing part off it and install that in a hardtop frame? Also I thing I have seen a few convert frames on here and Ebay. This car can be saved. Its not impossible. Nothing is. If you have to keep the frame for originality the use a donor frame for the rusted portions. Make sure you use a jig to keep it straight and weld away. I happen to have a 70 frame in VGC right here in STL. But I have no 69 parts and I have found that if you are doing a car like this it helps to have a stockpile of year specific parts. What about it is someone going to grab it? I think if you were not going to rebody then the price is close to max at 5200.00. I see a Then and Now resto at 110K and a resale value of about 60K-70K tops after seeing the silver one sell at BJ. Seems like a looser deal to me. Maybe George N. wants another rusted hulk shipped from STL
George you know you want it ... Just one more... you can have it done in 6 to 12 months... are you tempted yet? :beer Tony
IF it was cheep enough (7-8K) you could get a donor (car) body and frame and do the resto, other wise youre kidding yourself.
David I thought we were not mentioning that subject anymore you know re-b$$y Seems like some here would rather see it parted and another rare 4 spd stage 1 crushed and made into Honda Accords.
You talkin' to me? You talkin' to me? I thought I heard someone say rebody! You're not tricking me with those $$ signs where the letters o & d would be. Look, you ain't draggin' me into that one again, but... There ain't enough rust left to make an Accord. But she could make Junk of the Month in the latest issue of Rebuilt by Rebody, or better yet, centerfold in Relics of Rust: A Guide to Rivited Restoration
I do love that original invoice the owner put in there. What's ironic is that the invoice is like new and the car is gone. George and I have exchanged PM's. I failed to realize his earlier post regarding rebody / re-tag was not a serious one. As such, I am editing my post to its current content. Thanks George!
wow. Somebody needs my good doors and usable quarters for this car. How 6et two car hauler when you come down.
Despite Brian retaining my qoute, I have deleted my posts on this thread. A few of you saw my long winded post/reply earlier. It has been retracted as I could really care less about the topics presented in this thread. Good luck to the seller, good luck to the buyer. I hope ALL of you enjoy your Buicks/ other classic cars this season. To a safe and enjoyable 2010 :TU: :beer :beer :beer
As I see it "Purists" would say that no cost can restore this car. It cannot ever be a 69 GS Stage 1 4spd convertable again as too many parts would have to be used from other cars. So its a parts car. Can the parts sell for more than this car will bring?
Everybody has their own take on every car that comes up for sale. We are all passionate about the way we personally would take on the project if we would take it on at all. I have determined much like George that I hope someone buys this and does whatever they want to do. Have fun with whatever car project you have and whatever you want to do with it! I wish this was cheap so I could set it next to my 4 speed car non stage ragtop. They could be the rust brothers. :beer
My 69 Stage 1 coupe is rough(not this rough) and will most likely never get restored. It will sit inside and I will own it and be happy with owning it just as it sits. Even if I know it will never get a numbers matching hose clamp or paint marks on the firewall type resto. Don't ask, I will never sell it to anyone either. Whats great is that its my car and I can do whatever I want with it, if I do anything at all. Maybe I will just do the brakes and drive it as a beater! I do think it is interesting how many cars sites like Ebay have beaten out of the bushes over the last 10 years...
