And one more listed in my area...again, not mine... https://www.facebook.com/marketplac...l_story_type=post&tracking=browse_serp:619d4b
Would you say probably not an orig. Fresno car w/that rust? There was a seemingly rust free Skylark in Fresno (had been there all it's life) I wanted to buy last year but the guy was weird about me sending him a deposit & flying out to see it.
Looks like they started to strip and block it,then it was left like that. Hard to tell how bad the rust is now,but it looked like it was a nice dry-climate car. Surface rust in the northeast is completely different and moves at a much faster rate. This is something that needs to be looked at in-person.
Hard to say Dano about the rust. I live up north, south of the bay area and I've seen cars that are fairly pristine that have been near the ocean their entire life as well as cars with rust, albeit usually minimal, more inland. For instance, my Dad owns a 1976 International Harvester Scout that he bought brand new in September 1976 a few months after moving to California. The truck has spent it's entire life in San Jose, miles and miles from the ocean, mostly stored in the garage, and it has some rust around the cowl, top seam in rear and tailgate around the window. As far as clime is concerned though, I definitely would assume anywhere in the central valley and Fresno, should be an ideal place for a vehicle to live it's life without too much worry of rust but it's just hard to say for certain.
Cars for the most part rust from the top down in California. I live in the central valley and most of the rust occurs in the front and back windows especially with vinyl tops as we all know. The trunk and lower quarters also rust because of the back window and water collecting in those areas. Rust is a slower process here and people forget about the valley fog in the winter which keeps these cars in moisture for days and sometimes weeks at a time. The coastal areas are the worst places for rust because of the salty air. More than likely it has some rust in the typical areas put probably not much. it is a 52 year old vehicle but looks solid for the most part.
My definition of rusty definitely doesn't match this car. To me this thing looks mint. Back in Jersey in the mid 80's I could already punch a hole through my quarter.
Annual precip in Fresno is a hair over 4 inches (anything under ten inches is defined as desert). Of course, rust never rests - even that surface rust. Mine is a well cared for Stockton car (a couple hours north of Fresno) with 300k+ miles on the chassis and tire chains in the trunk when I bought it. Has virtually no rust.
I have a CA Skylark that was originally a vinyl top car & while the rest of the car is virtually rust-free, the roof has holes in the sheetmetal.
Same here. My first GS originally came from Seaside Buick in LaJolla, CA (San Diego). It was very solid overall, even the battery tray area was pretty nice, but it had a vinyl top and I recon the trunk weatherstrip failed. The lower channel that holds the weatherstrip (closest to the bumper) was completely rusted out. The trunk pan was also pretty rusty. The rear window channel wasn’t too bad though.
