    Big block convertibles are slow!!:Brow:

Don't waste your time with those land barges!!:3gears:

Just let me know where it is and I'll come haul it away for you!!:TU: :Brow:

I've had both, Chebbies and now the Buick I currently have. I'd much rather have the Buick. The ricers don't know what to think of it. All they know is that it's some old "grandma's car" that's tooo slow to get out of it's own way. Until you smoke their little ricer burner in the quarter!

Almost everyone you'll run into at a car show know's someone that owned one just like it (they must have made about a million of these, not the 1,100 or so that the factory says for 1970).

And they are great cruisers on the highway if you put a 4-speed automatic in them. I'd go for the Buick.

I called the guy with the Buick yesterday to talk numbers. He called back during the game, so I missed the call. Today may be the day!!!!

I've been waaaay into chevys for a while, pretty much just 'cause that's what I knew and was comfortable with. I've done a lot of work on a '68 camaro, '69 camaro and a 70 skylark(not a GS, just a 350)...if you're looking to autocross the camaro is probably going to be a better option. but if you're looking for a cool car that screams when you stomp on the loud pedal, the 455 Skylark wins in a heartbeat. if you're going for the 'pro-touring' theme, then do it right and get good suspension upgrades, you will not think twice about the extra cost when you drive it. I'm a big fan of Hotchkis' stuff because they design and build their components to be driven hard and track tested.

I have a '64 wildcat now, haven't even gotten to drive it yet and I LOVE it! Personally I think the average buick has more character and style than the average chevy. there are a ton of performance parts for the 455's, too, they're just not as well known as the chevy stuff. keep bugging the guys on the board here, there's a ton of buick gearheads here that know what they're talking about because they've tried it.

Look at it another way... be different. When I was in high school (before Greasel was born :pp ), I drove Dad's '64 Wildcat to school and raced it going home. I can't tell you how many guys I beat, but all were stunned to find it was a BUICK that beat them! And a big one at that! (218" long, 4500 pounds) I'm shopping for a Wildcat now for several reasons, but one of them is the fact that there aren't many to be seen in this part of the US.

If I were you, I'd get the Skylark. It's a load of fun, and there's a strong following. Parts are out there and not as rare a hen's teeth. Have fun and save the Chevys for the "dull" guys.

I will chime in....but I reckon you will find my opinion to be bias?:Brow:

As first noted, big block drop top sunny day, Mustang or Camaro for lunch....the possibilities are endless. BUICK GS Convertible, the only way to cruise. You will spend more money on the BUICK part for part compared to Chevy, and there is a reason for that. When out and about, the BUICK convertible is much more rare and absolutely first class, while passing a dozzen Camaros on the road.

Yeah, I guess my opinion is obvious:TU:

I had my 71GS Convertible out today and I can tell you that it is a great experience. Guys in Lexus and pick-ups giving the thumbs up. Rev'ing it up to 70mph and cruising with the wind in your hair. Go with the convertible.

Thanks for the lead. I did make it out to Wyoming after you passed on the car. I bought this gs 455 cont. Yes, you are correct RUST FREE, new interior, new cont. top and a brand new paint job. This is an all original car with correct block, trans, rear end, fenders doors and xtra 1970 code dated correct motor from pan to carb. This car will be easily driven GS Nats. Got to love Camaro guys  There is a 1972 BBB in the car which runs fairly nice. What a treat, my first convertible will feel great going thru my thin hair.

jimhirt, I'm really glad to see that someone who very much appreciates the car picked it up. I'm sure Delbert was happy about that too. I really tried to convince myself to want it, but in the end i didn't. I'm not really a convertible fan. I'm actually a 442 guy more than a Camaro guy. My first muscle car was a 71 442 with ram air that I bought from my uncle, who bought it new.

I did end up buying the Camaro, I'm supposed to pick it up this weekend.

I have an update. :beers2: I have replaced the top with Electron and have a perfect fit my 70 gs cont. :TU: I have three 12 b cars from 1970. One motor for which I have restless nights is machined by AMP and built by one of the finest builders in the country.Question??? Which one should I put the rumble too (in these vehicles)? restless is due to what car to put this 500HP code dated correct and with original parts. (The other car is a 70 stage 1)... jim hirt

    Jim,

I must have missed the pics of your find??

IMO, Keep the convert correct. Put the "rumble" in the least original of your stable.
