Given that exterior passenger mirrors (w/ tri-shield emblem) for the '70 GS are so rare, I'm wondering if anyone has attempted to convert a non-remote driver's-side tri-shield mirror into a passenger mirror. The mirror housing for both appears the same, to include the location and size of the emblem. The only obvious difference is the mounting bracket. Is anyone aware of any differences between the two sides that would preclude an attempt to do this? Also, has anyone tried to take a non-tri-shield passenger mirror and engrave the emblem on it, and if so what were the results? Lastly, in the context of the above how difficult would it be to turn a remote mirror into a non-remote mirror? Thanks.
The mirror housing on the non remote can be used. In fact if you loo at the underneath you will see there is an indentation which gets cut out depending if it is right or left. The issue is the pedestal (base) it is different and only good for the side the mirror went on. You could get an NOS RH and use that base with and NOS LH non remote.
