If its that number and not pitted I am interested. Unfortunately most 70s are not that number. The autos and 4 speeds had different numbers.

Perhaps someone has one left in their old iron intake after they installed an aluminum aftermarket intake?

    Jim,

I've got several ending in "1" not "9" but they are in, literally, perfect condition in you are interested. Maybe you'll find a judge with poor eyesight

    Jim,
I have one with 2 different numbers stamped into it. The numbers are 1232261 and 1231905. It came off a 70 california car and still has 1/2 the gray phosphate coating on the base part and the rod also has some of the yellow cad plating on it. If it was blasted and plated it would look perfect.

I also found some other parts you may be looking for,
2-placer spark plug wire retainers (dated March) and
the blue plastic bleeder caps for the front disc brakes.

Also found another date coded water pump. I must have really hoarded some parts over the years, I keep finding stuff.

If you want any of this you have my number.

    Brian,
That's a good one, we do not look at part numbers when we judge the cars. We don't have that kind of time available.

I too have one of each and visually they look the same. The one I have with the number I am looking for is in the same condition as the gray one you pictured. It is not good enough for the quality of car we are doing. I wish I knew the answer to your question. I just presumed the spring expansion rate may be different so the choke comes off at a different rate.

I would like to hold that thought on the choke to see what shows here that may be a 1232269 number.

Duane I would like to talk with you about the other parts via email.

I don't think you will notice a difference with the auto part # Jim.

    Jim,
    No problem, Let me know.

    Scott,
The part I have has both part numbers stamped into it. I have seen some with #1232261 only and some with both #1232261 and #1231905 stamped into them. All were visually the same, and like you, I figured only the spring was different. Mine may possibly be a replacement for both applications.

Now for the big question. What color is it supposed to be?

The bottom of two I have looks like both the plate and the arm were once gold cad?

Were some put on the engines before they were spray red?

Are just the replacement ones cad since they were not painted.

Are the plates suppose to be gray phosphate?

    Jim,
I have several NOS choke thermostats, and both the base and the rod are gold cad. I think they were installed after the engine was painted.

    Jim,
All the ones I have seen are not painted. (These are all the double numbered variety.) The bases look like they were silver/gold cad inside with gray phosphate outside. (Don't know how they did it.) Then the spring and holder inside are natural, while the rod is gold cad. The hook for the carb/manifold hose is black.

????? Do you mean the molded one that goes from the front of the carb to the pcv valve on the back of the manifold?

The hook on the wiring harnesss bracket that holds the PVC hose?

    Jim,
Yes. I figured that would be your next question about parts in that area.

    Adam,
1970's have a seperate hook for the hose and the wiring harnesss bracket has no hook built in.

1971's have the hook built into the wiring harnesss bracket.
