I know where a 70 stage 1 four speed silver/black with black top is. The car was taken completely apart to be restored but never started. I was told that everything is there but the glass. The body is in good shape and the engine and transmission have been stored inside since the car was taken apart. The owner wants to sell it but I have no idea what he is looking to get for it.
Feel free to pm me and I will pass the owners phone number along. He knows what he has and would love to put the car together but doesn't have the time to make it happen. Shame, I thought I might own that car someday. Guess not.

They picked it in boxes, you can make it happen too. I wouldn't mind having a chance to buy this car when it gets done someday.

I spoke to the seller (that is not the owner). Waiting on pics but not optimistic after hearing the asking price. I’ll update once I have more info to share.

$40k? Depends... What condition is the all the sheetmetal in? Potmetal? Stainless? Numbers matching engine and trans (how many Stage 1 4-sp like that are left?)? Correct Carb/dist? Fan shroud? Correct Rear? Orig Wheels? Options? All 4-sp. parts present? Hardware all in one box or bagged/labeled? Any NOS, used, repro parts?

I wouldn’t outright dismiss it just because it's apart even at that price (& before your best deal). Just discount it accordingly and check it all out thoroughly. I surely wouldn't buy it sight unseen. On the other hand if it needs lots of sheetmetal work, no carb/dist, NOM/T, obvious missing/broken pieces, etc. the price starts coming down rather steeply/quickly.

It's not brown/gold/beige (not that I'm against any of those, but...) or even green ( :) ;)) so there's that.

Dano - even if it’s all there, it’s not going to sell at that price needing paint, chrome work, interior, most mechanicals rebuilt/replaced, etc. since it is taken apart and a roller. If it were a running, driving car and all numbers matching, then perhaps it would bring that in this crazy inflated market we’re in. There are not many people that will buy a basket case like that, and it severely limits the sellers options. And it also creates a nightmare for transporting it without the drivetrain in it and who knows what else is not on the car (bumpers, fenders, core support, hood, etc.). Personally, I feel it’s closer to a $20k car depending on the condition of the metal and the parts included that you mentioned.

Remember, this is a Buick and Buick guys are mostly cheap. What is the most expensive 70 Stage 1, 4 speed, hardtop GS (non-GSX) sell for? Not including the white car that Thorton‘s restored that sold at Barrett Jackson a few years ago, I’m not aware of anything that cracked $100k. $85k is the highest I know of and it was all numbers, Concours Gold, with a great color combo.

You may be right James & I may be crazy:). I have 2 sitting here that I bought in boxes & hauled home from out of state & neither is worth '70 Stage 1 4-sp $ so... There were a lot of "ifs" I mentioned, the answers to which are the difference between it being a $15k or $35k "car" & I did add the caveat "before your best deal." If I was serious, I'd fly in & pull up in a U-haul w/a car trailer & cash and not move on whatever my offer was. One is certainly not making any $ on it but if we were in for the $ we wouldn't be into Buicks, lol. If it all checked out & for someone who wants an all #'s matching '70 Stage 1 4-sp (if it is & price commensurate if not) & likes the colors it could be a decent purchase. If I had the $, space & no projects (even 2 out of 3:)) I'd be interested.

I was there today and only checked the block numbers, they are correct for the car. This was sold as a numbers matching Stg1 4speed. It is said to have a Sloan report as well. The guy that sold it is still in contact with Scott and responds to questions from him.
Just passing along what I have learned today.
