Doo Wop Where were you in '62?

Does anyone have a list of available build dates that were used for these Stage 1 carbs? Recall hearing they were run in batches, not sure that is correct.:Do No:

That is the kind of information that we don't want to make public. Just helps the "restampers" build more of them with a bit more accuracy to sell on Ebay......Cliff

That stuff should stay in PM's, and the source should be careful when giving up that sort of information.

Folks email and call here ALL the time for such details, most are potential buyers getting ready to get robbed on a E-bay purchase (re-stamped). I will only tell them if their carb, or the one they are looking to buy is real if they send photo's of it, or a link to the auction, etc. As a general rule, I will not discuss build dates for rare and extremely valuable units......Cliff

Yes they were run in batches. I was involved with Qjet production near the end in the mid 80's. Whether it was service or production, they were run in batches. Heck, some of the more common numbers on one of the main lines would run for 3 shifts for days or weeks IIRC. The not-so-common numbers and service runs were much smaller and it took a long relative amount of time to change over the first few stations, which included the numbers/stampings. I can recall several techs working at the numbering station, changing things over. Seemed like the line was always waiting on them. You would not believe the amount of people, floor space, machine operations, engineering etc that it took to build carburetors. Then when FI was ramped-up, people and equipment disappeared and half the plant went dark. I remember when some of the punch presses near the front of the plant on Lexington Ave were removed and replaced with some of the first CNC machines for FI. Big doings in the 80's! I think much of the tooling for Qjet production was initially sold to Weber, and then to someone in between before being sold Edelbrock? Wish I could remember more..
