    Hi...
I checked the Id on my carb today and found out, that there isn't the original one installed...

I got a 67 Riviera (430) and the carb installed is a 7041540-so it should stand for

    70-before 76
    41- 1971
    5-california emission
    4-Buick
    0-Automatic...right?

As I got another one in the trunk I'd like to know if it's probably the original one- but I can't identify that thing.

    The numer is:7033744
    So
    70-before 76
    33-??? no idea...the 67 had 27 or 37,right?
    7-??
    4-Buick
    4-Automatic...also right?

I remember reading s.th about the fact that the 66+ 67 carbs had a round number at the back-just like mine ...but I can't find the webpage anymore...
    Can anyone help?
Will there be a difference in performance if it should really be the original one?

5 = California emission or high altitude

0= Automatic...right? In general number sequences with an even final number are an indicators of auto trans but not always. For example, stage 1 carbs number sequences end in "2" or "6". These sequences are good both both manual and auto trans cars. 70 Riv carbs end in ..247 and even though 7 is an odd number they were all auto trans cars.

    Ok...again...

    The numer is:7033744
    So
    70-before 76
    33-??? no idea...the 67 had 27 or 37,right?
    7-??
    4-Buick
    4-Automatic...

The year code 33 just doesn't exist as I know...
70 means before 76...170 would mean after 76
but what means the second 7?
I just know that 5 means california emission...

For odd codes first I would recheck to insure you have not misread the code. If it is a valid code and not easily found the first suspicion I would have is that it may be associated with a special application like California, export or marine.

    the number is definitely right...7033744
The number on the metal plate at the back is
    BP(or RP) 29865...
Export could be right...the car is a rare european version...but is there a difference?

Ok- as I am havin some carb problems again I have to revive my old thread...probably anyone out there who can tell me what type of carb I have?

I do not want to rebuild one and then find out that it does not really fit my engine.

Any advise on the number 7033744?
I really can not find anything on the net.

My alternative would be just buying something like Holley or Edelbrock, but after all I've read the Quadrajets are quite good-does that fit your opinions?

there is nothing wrong with that 7041540, it is a 1971 Buick 455 carb, 800cfm.

I would think it would work fine on your engine unless youre looking for numbers.

and btw I have a rebuilt 7027248 (67 riviera) qjet ready to go on my site www.everyday-performance.com

sorry i cant help you with the 33 numbers

"I remember reading s.th about the fact that the 66+ 67 carbs had a round number at the back-just like mine"

The original 67 carb should have had a round tag on the drivers side of the carburetor just above the primary throttle shaft on the main casting.

Early 1968 units also had a tag, after that they were all stamped vertically on the main casting, drivers side, just above the secondary throttle shaft.

A number in the back of the carb in a small circle would be a casting number.....Cliff
