As far as I know the bucket's in ragtop were not an option but an SCO ordered car could get them. There are a few around but it was not listed as an option. Standard seats in a convert were bench in 71/72.
I've read that if it was a black interior , it had to be a non-armrest bench. I've seen brown and white interiors with armrests so as far as I can tell , this is accurate.
The reason they turned down the GSX convert was due to the rear spoiler not fitting the rear quarters properly. There's no such thing as a "GSX interior".The only difference interior-wise was the dash plate.
I am pretty sure there are some members on this Board with 72 GS convert cars that came SCO with bucket seats. I know there are 71 cars owners here with SCO buckets in converts.
I was right up Highway 54 from you in Raleigh at NC State at the same time. Which dealership? Must have been Johnson Buick in Durham or Al Smith Buick in Raleigh. My uncle also owned the Nissan (Datsun)/Austin Healy/ MG dealership on Durham -Chapel Hil Blvd at that time. The spoiler on a GSX convert is really not much of an issue.
I owned and a few months back sold a 70 stage one silvermist originally sold at Johnson Buick in Durham. What color GSX convert did you order?
Weird how all other GM divisions had buckets available in ragtops in 71-72. With Olds 442 they were even standard equipment. Many W-30's had buckets in converts as well. I think it was a company decision and not that geek Nader.
You are right Rich my bench is long gone as I put buckets in my car years ago and have never looked back. Makes for a more musclecar look anyway I think.
My 1971 Stage 1 Convertible is an SCO car with buckets and the long console/floor shift. I bought the car from the original owner that missed out on the 70 stage 1 ragtop and was pissed when the dealer said he couldn't get them on the 71. He eventually found a dealer that was helpful-Win Stephens Buick that used to be in St.Louis Park, Minnesota. Ordered it in the fall and the car arrived at the dealership in May of 71. I never understood why just the Buick intermediate was "no buckets" in 1971-72. Course I never understood how they could make a 4 wheel drum, manual brake 1970 Sportwagon with the trailer towing package and manual steering either.
