Wasn't 1971 the year at Indy when a dealer provided the pace cars (not a manufacturer) and the driver lost control of the pace car? Poor brakes? Inexperienced driver?
Yup! The car was completely rebuilt for the legal proceedings, and was kept by the Indy dealer for many years. Could this be it???
Well, they must have "built" more than one as Indy would have required a backup or two. I used to have a H/O Olds Pace Car that was a "Festival 500" car used in the pre-race festivities and parade, so I wonder how the Dodge dealer handled providing so many cars? I wonder if this is a track car?
