Some quick info after looking at this '71 GS. Current color Cortez Gold; original Platinum Mist (13) w/Black Vinyl roof (B); interior appears to be original trim code 168 - needs at a minimum headliner, driver's bucket seat & upright portion of rear seat coverings; carpet apparently replaced (gold color) when repainted. Odometer shows 96,491 VIN 434371H104188 - Fisher assembly date 09A Engine code TD; date code 031; matching numbers 350 engine including correct carb, air cleaner, distributor, intake manifold - did not check other items. Runs but water pump is leaking. Exhaust system appears to be fairly recent. Transmission has been replaced - has posi diff - too much crap on axle housing to find code. Obvious options - factory ac (not original compressor), ralleye steering wheel, ralleye gauge, N25 bumper, floor shift w/ long console. Panels appear straight, although rear quarters appear to have been replaced w/skylark panels. Some rust, although using a magnet I found only small areas indicating filler/bondo. Found original '71 owners manual in car but no other documentation - according to seller the car was purchased in the mid-1990s by his father in St. Pete, FL. Seller seems anxious. I'm happy to try to answer any questions if anyone is interested - just had time to look over and wanted to share info.
I have had several calls from the seller, Reginald, over the past week and in a call this evening he certainly seems highly motivated to sell this vehicle - it was his dad's and his brother ended up with it and now Reginald has it, has no interest in it and wants to sell. I told him that his price is too high and he will have to sell for substantially less than his asking price - possibly a good opportunity for someone looking for a sb project. In my previous post I forgot to include two items of info: has a tilt steering column and the rear spoiler appears to be an actual 1971 GSX spoiler based on the info that Duane Heckman put together on the differences between the '70, '71 and '72 spoilers. The spoiler probably was added later as the Fisher Body plate shows an 09A assembly date and I believe the '71 GSX options were not available until mid 1-71. I do not know the seller other than meeting him twice to look at the car.
I was talking to this gentleman about the car threw emails. He accused me of planning to steal the car and scaming. We had agreed on a possible price of $5500 just so everyone knows. I asked several times for more info additional pictures and other things to help make the final decision threw several emails. I had already got a shipping quote just in case. I get a email back saying he is going to turn me into the police and use my emails as evidence if it is stolen. He told me his gut feeling told him I had planes to steal the car or was scaming him. That he already had talked to the police and gave them the info. I explained that I had nothing to hide and gave him my info. Told him I understand his concern and would stop emailing him since he felt uncomfortable. After this it left a bad taste in my mouth about the deal and the person selling it. When I sell a car the potential buyer gets all the info they want, pics,cowl tags,history everything. I like to make sure they have the info required to make a positive purchase. i don't care if its 50 emails. I understand the concerns and risk out there in todays cyber world but if your that parinoid stay off the computer. just thought it should be posted so that others can use caution if interested. I want to thank Steve for taking the time to post about this car. I wanted to talk to him to get a fair veiw of the car and not some seller pitch. I'm now unsure I will even deal with this guy as i am not sure he is all together. o No:
