I have a perfect (no chips/cracks etc) grille for my GS. It looks terrible though, age and time have taken their toll. Where can I find the correct paint codes/paint scheme for this grille? I'd like to get as close to correct the first time..

    Thanks..

Get hold of Al Yeager , a member here. He recommended some paint colours for me a couple years ago. I restored a '71 Custom grille for my Skylark.
The silver is Plasti-Kote 8115. He can advise on the scheme & the darker.

Eastwood sells wheel paints that are acrylic lacquers that should work good for plastics and colors are very close. They have a charcoal gray, two different silvers (which one is close is anyones guess) and the underhood black is a good match. I have used these with good succcess. just don't use together with enamals. If you choose to do it yourself it will take days and hours of taping and you may wish you had paid the other guy.

repainting these grills, with all the cleaning, some fine sanding, taping, painting three different colours takes hours & hours.. when the job is completed, what an accomplishment when u get is correct! have done two 72 gs grills.

I have done close to 50 GS grilles now. I still enjoy taking off all the tape and seeing the final result. A 71 GS grille takes me around 5 hours to mask and paint correctly. I use PPG automotive paints so the finish will last and I won't have to go back and redo a grille. Good luck with your grille project.

    Ron,

What I use is a custom blend of PPG DP90 and DP48 to make a light grey to seal the grille. Next I paint it with a bright silver VW Silversbee on the front side. The squares are painted with an argent charcoal. The color is from a mid 90's GM grille.
The black is GM interior paint.
The paints were mixed as DIU interior paint with a reactive reducer so clear was not required.
