I thought this was discussed before but couldn't find it, who is making correct hood scoop grills for the one year 71 style?? Thanks in advance Ron
Duane from Classic Car Interiors was selling them off his website: http://www.classiccarinteriors.com/products.htm
I have none of these parts currently available. We need to remake the molds and will not get to this for some time. Duane
I took a real good look at my grills tonight and all they really need is new paint. So with that said what are the correct colors/sheen? I have a "grill silver" paint that drys flattened also a "hotrod" black paint that has a low sheen how would these work for this project??? Thanks Ron
what about the pot metal grills that yearone sells will these interchange with the rest of my 71 parts
Can't answer that myself, just hope someone would chime in about correct colors and finish's since mine are in great shape except the paint. Ron
Here is waht I used. Came out real nice. For the black I used Eastwood underhood black has a nice satiny look but not too flat. The silver I used was Eastwood Alumiblast. It has a nice flat silver look. This works good on tailight and parking light lenses as well and was a great match to original. They are both compatible paints being laquers which are better for plastic as they dry fast and do not attack plastic. Tough to mask these things as you need patience. You need to paint that abcks silver and the grilles black then tape it all up and paint the small line silver. Wait several days betewenn steps and get the tape off the new paint fast or it will peel off. Tough to say how flat the black was due to 40 years of fade. anyway the sun will flatten it over time anyway. I also found a Krylon gray tha simulated the molded gray plastic look of the backs. It appears it is comapitble with the Eastwood paints. I will post a picture of a completed unit in the next few days.
Here they are. One is completed the other just needs the raised cross pieces painted. They are such a pain to tape I have been putting off doing the last one.
That is the color and sheen I figured it should be, mine were painted by hand in flat black and dull silver. Looks like a weekend project!!!
I 'm a car lover. Because my limiting knowlege, I can not understand your question fully. So I 'm sorry I can't give you any help. I wish you could resolve your problem soon.
It is best to get the old paint off before you start. Easy Off oven cleaner works best. Many re-apps may be neccesary. Put in plastic bag to keep wet when it is working. Just do not get on bare hands. It burns and dissolves your skin.
I painted my scoops GM satin black ( under hood black) then I painted the silver with a paint stick I picked up at the local hoby shop no need to mask anything I have also done the silver on the tailights I can post pic if you would like to see
