71 Buick Skylark numbers matching https://detroit.craigslist.org/mcb/cto/d/avoca-71-buick-skylark-numbers-matching/7646559534.html
"I started to rebuild..then realized i bought a pile of **** and now need to unload it on another schmuck"
Here's the story behind this car, in 6 easy to follow steps: Plucked car from a barn for about $800 load onto a rented trailer stop at the gas station to snap a few photos for a Craigslist ad to show the as-found, barn find condition, covered in dust then straight to the $2.50 car wash to clean off the dust (the best part of a barn-find car!) then snap photos for a Craigslist ad without even unloading the car AND before the water has even dried from the car wash! Oh, and nevermind taking any photos of the engine, interior, or trunk, it's too much effort to climb up onto the trailer! List on Craigslist for $4,800 Photo for Step 5 :
Except he's not even unloading it! Oh and the ad mentions "matching numbers" and that makes me wonder, who cares if the numbers match on a Skylark with a 350? (No disrespect to owners of Skylarks with a 350, heck I have some of them myself).
Tbh, & I have a couple so no disrespect, but I'm not sure it matters on a GS w/a 350 if it's numbers matching - Maybe on a '71-2 350 GSX.
Does this method work? How closely does one have to stick to the above steps? Is some variation allowed? Does it have to actually be found in a barn, or does an old outdoor building like this one qualify? Asking for a "friend" who is planning on picking this up this weekend.
Yes, that will do just fine! It doesn't have to be from a barn to be called a barn find. It just has to be really dirty. The most important thing to be a master Craigslist flipper is to photograph the car while still strapped to an open trailer while on your way home from the purchase. The homerun is when you can sell the car without ever unloading it while in your possession. Just load it when you buy it and hopefully you don't touch it again until you unload it for the person that buys it. Minimal effort for a quick buck. I'm not good at this process. I can find junk cars and buy them, I just can't seem to ever sell anything since I won't put up an ad.
That sounds like it would be a good plan, especially since the car doesn't run, so unloading it is a little extra work. However, the trailer likely will be needed for another car before this one sells, so that probably won't work. I do like that minimal effort part though, lol!
And they match the fugly's on the back. :>) Actually the whole car has a bunch of fugly stuff, lol. Hopefully it doesn't smell. :>)
And the '71 bumper guards are actually smaller and more attractive than those that were used on the '72s.
Very hard to use "bumper guards" and "attractive" in the same sentence, but I think you nailed it Gary!
Tough call. I've been saving pictures of '71s w/ & w/o them. My car (Burnished Cinnamon) came w/bumper guards, door edge guards, & body side molding & I don't hate any of them. I have pics of all where I think look really good & pics w/o that look really good too. Looking for a set of NOS rear bumper guards or just the rubber pads in case I do put them on.

I have pics of all where I think look really good (esp. on the darker colors) & pics w/o that look really good too. Of course beauty is in the eye of the beholder & I can see wjere people don't like any of it. I am looking for a set of NOS rear bumper guards or just the rubber pads in case I do put them on. Also any NOS body side molding pieces.
