    Hey there fellow forum peoples:)

This is my 3rd post, and im very excited about my new purchase. I just had my dad pick it up, and wanted to post a couple picks of it, and would like to ask for help. Can you guys tell me if the front end, grill, and back are right for the year and model. I want to put it back to what it should look like, but i see so many different combo's, i could easily make a mistake.

    Thanks in advance

    David

Thanks for the quick reply. I cant tell, yours looks darker than mine, and i wonder if it is just the light. I will see what a few others think about it. Yours looks mean though.

Nice car. The hood trim and the grille look to be from a 72, as is the front bumper. Rear looks correct.

Nice Skylark David! Looks like you might have Chevy wheels on it though!

    Thank you

I will look into the Buick Magnums, and switch out the bumper and grill for the correct one. I thought Steve's looked a little different even right when he bought it. Is the 71 bumper the one without any vertical posts? And from what i understand, the chrome around the headlights is right, and in 72 they were painted to match? Is that right as well. If so, what did you mean about the trim on the front being 72? I will have to go to a few shows to see in person what i need.

Thanks again for all the advice so far.

    David,
Post a close up of the grille & just catch the top edge of the bumper. I think you might have a '71 Custom grille, either repainted incorrectly or missing the stainless strips.
I see a black reflection on the leading edge of the front bumper on some of it, but I do not see a solid rubber strip. The rubber strip would indicate a '72 bumper. The vertical pieces are bumper guards which were an option for the car. May/may not have been built with them. Bumper guards were factory installed front & rear as a set. Very easy to install after the fact front or rear. I had front & rears on mine. Removed the front as I didn't care for the look. Wished I'd kept the rears but they are currently in the hands of a member here, somewhere in Hawaii.

We buys ours on base, so it is comparable with America, but the Okinawans pay a bit over 200 yen per liter. I think there are about 3.8 liters in a gallon, and a yen is worth a little less than a penny. So yeah, it is not a suprise that they drive such small cars.

The vertical bumper guards should be removable. The 71 custom grill may be a little hard to come by. I havent seen many of them.

It is a rubber strip across the bumper, so i will see if I can find the right one. Im fond of the vertical look though, i might keep it if i can switch it over to the correct bumper.

Anyone have some pictures of the Buick Magnum wheels. If you could add as an attachment, i would appreciate it, photobucket and all are blocked for me.

    Thanks

    Hi David,
Out of curiousity, what color is your interior?

It is black, but it is in terrible shape. No headliner, and seats and dash need to be recovered. I might even do the carpet while im at it. We will see how far the checkbook gets me:)

    David,
I was able to enlarge the pics a bit...old age setting in!
The bumper is definately a '72 as others here have already stated.
The grill is definately not a '71 Custom. I just checked mine in the garage. I'm not familiar with the '72 grilles.
The bumper guards are year specific, i,e. a '71 guard is slightly different from a '72. The '71 will not have the cutout for the rubber strip to pass behind it.
    Nice car.

As far as I know, only the 72 grilles had the "bug catchers" on either side of them. The 71 grille went all the way across the opening as shown by Steve's car. I will check my book tonight or tomorrow to be sure. The hood nose trim is definitely 72, as is the front bumper.

The previous owner must've rear ended a ford that was going too slow, and could only find 72 parts to fix it.

    Go to: www.buickperformance.com
Enter the site & find 2008 members & pics of their cars.
Look at a '71 Custom owned by Lou Baylog for a 3/4 view of the car with a Custom grille. Mine is there too but before I installed the Custom grille. Shown with a standard grill & the guards I removed since.
