Dave, The number on that carb, 7042242, is for a 72 Stage 1. I think the seller listed it incorrectly. The reason I'm pointing that out is, I sold an NOS one about a year ago through Hemmings, and I'm having trouble remembering if the buyer was from Florida. (where the carb is listed) I bought it in '03 from Mark Smith, out of McQueeny, Texas. http://www.blake.com/oemcarbs/ Anyway, I'm thinking that's the carb, only because there aren't too many NOS Stage 1 Q-Jets kicking around.... I had some pictures of it around here somewhere....let me look....
Thanks Brett, I should have noticed the 1 number difference as I have 2 -71 Stage-1 carbs. How much did you pay if you don't mind me asking? I hate when someone buys something just to mark it up. A lot of that goes on however. I found a nice 71 Stage-1 carb at the GS nationals last year for $125 which I thought was great. The owner said he bought it NOS in 74 and it had only a few miles on it and it looked so clean I believe it. When I took it apart it did have bent primary metering rods and wrong jets but it was an easy fix and still has nice plating on it.
Dave, I paid about $900.00 for it when I bought it. At the time, I was SOOO hard pressed to find the correct Q-Jet, spending that kind of money wasn't going to stop me....sad, I know.... Then, about 6 months later, the other used one comes along and now I have no use for the NOS one. Aside from the fact that it would make a nice conversation piece, I wasn't going to be the first one to run gas through it... So.....off to Hemmings it went...for about $300.00 less than it's listed for now (providing it's the same carb) Here's some pics...
Brett, That carb looks sooo pretty!! I dont know if you should have let that one go. Theres a place by me that does really nice resto work on Q-Jets. name is Allstate Carburetor and Fuel Injection. I had my 7040246 carb done there last year. They took it apart, re-dyed all the castings and cad plated all the linkage. Cost was 379.00. Looked like it belonged on a shelf instead of my intake. The owner, Bob really knows his stuff, especially about Holleys. Built me a killer 850 DP for my 71.
