I have a 1972 Skylark GS clone with a 72 455. It is currently running in the 11.90s with its current set up.

I am planning on running the 2007 Hot Rod Power Tour and need to figure out how to get the best MPG.

I need to find out what to install as far as jets, rods, hangers. Also what the best distributor would be.

I have a 38 over 455 with the following set up.
    TA intake SP1
    10.34 to 1 compression
    TA 2in. prim. tube headers
    3 inch exhaust
    MSD non vacuume distributor
    MSD 6AL box
    Turbo 350 with a 3500 stall converter
12 bolt possi with 3.73 gears

I have access to a DUI vacuume advance dist.
I have a ton of Q-jet parts and can build anything I may need
    A stock 72 iron intake
    A 2400 stall converter

    Any thoughts would help out.
    Thanks
    Mike

For a car that is going to see that kind of street driving, I would think getting vacuum advance back on there is a MUST!

Vacuum is a good idea; at least 10 extra degrees in it.
What jets are you running to get 11.90's? I'm experimenting on my 72 q-jet.

You may get by with .75-76 front jets, an extra 5 degrees timing if no vacuum, and street radials with lots of air. Oh, and LIGHT throttle under such conditions.

Ditch the TH 350 and install (even if it's temporary) an automatic overdrive such as the TH 200 R4. If you buy one that can handle the engine torque, you'll never go back to the TH350. If you can't afford that much 200 R4, buy what you can afford, and disconnect the secondary throttles for the Power Tour.

At minimum, install a TH 350C. The 200 R4 would be a significant improvement over the lockup-clutch 350, though.
