I finally located a perfect non a/c dash pad in black. Good price and genuinely nice. Only one issue. The Buick emblem on the dash pad is a wood grain emblem with Buick embossed in it ( instead of the silver one with Buick embossed in black). First, is the wood grain emblem potentially correct for the Stage 1 cars , especially given the abundance of wood trim on the car and on the door panels? If not, can it be removed and swapped for a silevr one ( I have a nice one)? How would that be done ? Glued? Thanks, Steve
Yes it can be removed it basicly just pop in snaps into place ,Take a small screwdriver to remove the old one and carefuly press with your fingers the new one in Dave
Steve, Here's a basic idea from Uncle Georgy: Great info he has http://www.buickperformance.com/cluster.htm Contents: http://www.buickperformance.com/page1.htm <A href="http://www.v8buick.com/"><IMG height=130 alt="V8Buick.com - Your Online Tool Box!" src="http://www.buickpartsdirectory.com/v8buick.gif" width=130 border=0></A>
Swapped them a few minutes ago. Simple once I got the green light on how to go about it. Dash is perfect now. Thanks for teh help. Steve
Glad you finally found a nice dash pad. They are getting harder to find...but I new you could get one here. Bert
ScottIt took a couple months, but my sense is they ar e out there. You'll laugh, but I found and bought three of them. Two on evilbay and one locally. One is a nice gold one that I am having professionally dyed black. The second a black one that has several small cracks , easy fixes , and the third a perfect black one from Vancouver. That's the primary one. If you're interested in the black one with three small cracks , I'd be willing to sell it for what I paid plus shipping to you. It has one clip missing on the end, but really decent and still very pliable. A vinyl guy could easily repair the cracks ( got an estimate of $100-150 to do it and respray the piece to new cond). Or you could use as is possibly. I'd need to get $90 plus shipping . Let me know. Thanks, Steve
Steve, That's what I'm worriied about doing it, Two Months. Yikes. Time is a factor for me, kinda..... I'd die if my car isn't able to run...... Once I start I'm going to re-lamp the instrument cluster with LED's, Pull out the instrument cluster (Big job for me) Pull the radio out and see why it konked out on me. (Got a free sparkomatic laying around? Working or not?) Also, I have a new instrument cluster I bought out in California several years ago, been in the garage wrapped in bubble packing in the garage. Really new chrome (shiney) and real Brand New, and have to swap the original Tach from the car to the new one W/ the cluster clock. So, it will be down for a while. I have to get pschyed up and make this commitment. I have all the stuff. I hear ya. I tried to do it quickly on my 69 Camaro and , to be honest, I didn't allow time to just a)do it right an db) enjoy the garage time. This car needs some chasing, but is generally pretty nice. If it takes a few years to do it all , that's ok. My biggest issue is the long winter and no heat in the garage. Someday, it'll have year round heat and that will be awesome! All that said, can't wait to get going on several projects in a couple weeks. Steve
You anywhere near Moosehead Lake? Untouched wilderness.... Use to go there almost every summer. <A href="http://www.v8buick.com/"><IMG height=130 alt="V8Buick.com - Your Online Tool Box!" src="http://www.buickpartsdirectory.com/v8buick.gif" width=130 border=0></A>
Not near Moosehead. That's about 3 hours away. Great spot . I occasionally snowmobile in that area, though. Steve
Car is at the body shop getting some minor paint work. When it returns, some mechanical stuff. I am waiting for a rechromed dash bezel and then I'll take the existing A/C pad out and do the swap. It has a small crack in one corner, but otherwise really nice and quite repairable. I'll keep you posted. Steve
