So what about the Ford parts box on the floor, what is that for? And to be totally dorky what do the labels on the box say about what was in the box, etc. There and no Ford part that are approved ona Buick:Smarty: :bla:

The ford box was used as it should be on the floor. There was a bumper reinforcement in it.

Well yesterday was a short day for the Buick, I only welded up the holes I drilled so I can grind them down today. Had family matters to attend to is what cut the day short.

Well not a whole lot of stuff to show for today, but I did a lot more welding and grinding today. Seems like I didn't do anything.

Here's the section I cut out today:

Here's the pieces that were welded and blasted and primed today.

Tomorrow lots more sandblasting and welding in store.

Ok slow but sure Marc, Val told me you called the other day and by the sounds of your voice seems like you lost faith in me. Well here's the new pix's of what was done. I got the doors stripped, filled, etched then 2K primed yesterday and then I did another layer of fill in hopes that this will be the last for the doors. Then sand and reprime possibly tomorrow. The hood is in etch prime and ready for the 2K primer. Hopefully I will get these panels completed for the weekend. I want to bring the car back in by the weekend and start doing up the door jambs so I can paint those so I can put the doors and front clip back on and align everyting so I can weld the rear quarter back on. Oh yeah I bought the paint too. So there's no changing your mind now.

I had to go out and look in the garage at my section I took from a salvage Buick. That little panel was bent badly on the car I got from Mike S. After getting the part and drilling all the spot welds out we started to see if we could save the original and we did. That red panel looks exactly like mine

Great thread! I had the same issues with my 72 GS. Guy who owned it before me just duct taped the rusty parts to back the bondo and went crazy. As far as that stainless trim with the black plastic inserts that ran horizontal along the doors, are you selling that? (The ones along the front fender, door, and rear 1/4). I did not have the mounting studs shaved because I thought I would just pick it up somewhere used or as a reproduction, but so far no luck. I would love to have something to put over all those studs and clips on the side of my car, at least until I have it repainted again. Please let me know, and thanks for the great posts!

Armand those parts you are talking about were aftermarket on this car. So not original but my dad has a set of the rear qtr ones with black inserts laying in his shop. I'll get you a price and pm you.

They were? Do you think they were replacements from the original? The window sticker shows protective side mouldings (see #11) option Y 51 for huge amount of $24. Not that I wanted them on the car when done just intresting conversation.

BTW--Jarrod, I have all the the faith in world that you'll do right by me.

Actually Marc I was basing it on the one I got from Mark out of Texas, you didn't have any on this car when it got here.

I actually have no idea on the mouldings, I was just saying that based on what others have told me they know about the option. I though that sounded funny because the mounting posts and clips appear punched or rivited in but I was also 2 years old when this car was made so I though maybe that is how the dealers did it back then!

You have the original sticker on this one? Priceless! As for the mouldings, if I knew before what I know now I would have shaved the mounts in a second. Now that they are there, if you would sell the mouldings at a reasonable price I would rather do that than wait till I repaint the car to correct my mistake.

And I am positive your GS will come back from the dead. Mine is well on it's way and it was about as bad as yours, minus the crash damage but with some frame rust issues.

    Thanks again.

Now look back to when this thread started. Jarrod's remarks: "All I have to do is the paint and body work."
It's amazing what is found when you start tearing into one of these cars.
What begins as a simple patch, repair, and paint can turn into replacing and refitting almost the entire rear body.
    Who knew???
    Marc,
You are very fortunate that you picked Jarrod to do your car. Now at least you know that the car was repaired and straightened correctly.
Not bad for a one man band.

    Now the real fun begins!!!
    Where did I put those..........??????
