72 Skylark 350 Ground Issues

My 72 Skylark keeps burning alternators and voltage regulators. Currently the “generator” light flashes on and off. I put a quick disconnect switch until I can address the problem. Any help out there?

You need good ground from battery neg to block, and good ground from block to body (firewall), and good ground from battery to frame, and frame to body.

Then make sure you have good battery positive to starter lug and both headlight and fuse block supply wires have correct fuse links and are also well connected to the starter lug. Make sure alternator power connection is clean.

Then make sure the self tapping screws for any bonding have good "bite" (I will add serrated washers).

Anything that is grounded by screws or bonded to the the chassis is a good ground.

And inspect any and all cables and wires. You would be surprised at how poorly 50-60 year old wiring is at carrying load even though it looks perfectly fine. Given the many thousands of dollars a car is worth, the "insurance" spent on replacing suspect wiring and cables cannot be overlooked.
