72 Skylark - What kind of top is this?

Discussion in 'The ragtop shop' started by taclark, Jul 2, 2005.

I have a 72 Buick Skylark with an unusual top. I wouldn't call it a convertable, but I don't know what kind of top it is. I'm the second owner, and the original owner told me that the top was a factory option, not custom. I'll try to describe it, and would greatly appreciate it if anyone can tell me more about it.

The top folds back manually, accordian style. The movable portion is rectangular in shape and covers the flat portion of the roof, leaving the fixed sides in place. This movable portion is much larger than a sunroof, but less than a convertable. Where a convertable folds back, eliminating the rear window, the rear window and posts are fixed and immovable in my car.

Any idea of what kind or roof this is or how rare it is?

Wow, I haven't see a SunCoupe for maybe 15 years, there was one locally in the '80s and '90s

    Pictures - Uhh, I dunno

This buick was driven until 1995 and then parked outdoors. I'm sure the blue-tarp covering it deteriorated within a year or two, and unfortunately, ten years have somehow slipped away. I always thought that I'd restore it, but that just isn't happening and doesn't seem like it will anytime soon. So I'm thinking of selling it on ebay to a more caring person. Maybe it's too far gone, and I'm horrified at the thought of seeing the damage. But I would like to visit her and get a picture just to verify that it is a suncoupe.

    Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh man :Dou:

    That is definitely a shame!

I just spent Saturday helping my friend work on his 72 Sun Coupe.

Just put Torque Thrusts on it and we did some detailing and she is looking mint.

This blue one breaks my heart though.Hope you can find it a good home.

I see the prices on these all over the range in case you are wondering the value of yours (you mentioned selling it). I located the one my friend got and it is VERY VERY mint and he paid in the 8k range.

The cars are fairly rare but don't seem to bring that much from what I have seen.A quick guess based solely on cosmetics and not knowing the drivetrain condition would be around $1500 :Do No:

Good luck with it no matter what you decide :TU:

I doesn't look that bad. Just a lot of TLC and a roof over its head. Does the engine run.
