I really thought this would have already been posted here: https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1972-buick-gs-5/ KID
Interesting car, other than the VIN/documentation saying it is a Stage 1, there is nothing else left on the vehicle that is Stage 1 to my untrained eye other than the emblems. If the car is set up how you'd like, then bid accordingly. In a way it reminds me of this '72 Stage 1 on Hemmings this summer: https://www.v8buick.com/index.php?threads/1972-gs-stage-1-in-socal.369315/
I think it looks great for the $! The 17s look tasteful, tremec 5 speed, 4 wheel disks, almost 700 foot pound 455.
I would bet that is the one that was owned by a member in Canada. He also has a GSX that was purchased from Aaron Reed. I believe they were both sold around 2010.
I made that window sticker and statistics sheet in 2009 for a member who lived in Canada. Edit: I also made a window sticker for him at the same time for a 70 GSX.
Picture #161&162 of the undercarriage allows you to see an Apollo white GSX with a basketball in front of it. Not that I have that kind of money no matter how great a deal, but can you tell if this is a reserve auction? Other than the 12 to 1 compression & associated parts (1050 Carb. & electric pump to feed the beast) if I had the money I’d go after this bad boy. These are times I wish I had sold all my jinky stuff & was sitting on the cash to pull the trigger. Hendrix bought my 71 GS-455 convertible back in the day (“Pops Hendrix “ R.I.P.) and they (more so these days) only buy top end cars. Okay gotta stop looking, getting depressed with “what if’s”.
All auctions on Bring A Trailer have a reserve unless it is specifically mentioned in the title that it is a No-Reserve auction. Also, for the auctions that have a reserve, there is no indication of when the reserve is met. You only find out when the auction ends if the car sold or not.
I get BAT's daily email showing both auctions closing that day & new auctions & somehow missed this. Will be interesting to see what it goes for. Not necessarily my thing but I do like it - Would sure be a fun one to drive.
Thank you Gary, I couldn’t find that info but did find the buyer fee (5% up to $5000) & seller fee section. Knowing the the caliber & common price of cars that Hendrix (previous seller) sells I am sure this has a hefty reserve unless the current owner just wants it gone (slim chance). Anyhow thanks for the reserve info on there, always been curious about that.
I'd buy this one in a minute if it didn't have 12:1 compression. It would cost a fortune to street drive it on 116 race fuel. Wonder what the 1/4 mile times were when it was raced? High 10s maybe?
In the comments owner says he adds something to pump gas. No way to know if it's actually 12:1 & the aluminum heads help too. Might not be too bad to drive. Looks like it's going to go for pretty good $. The one in CA mentioned above was probably a better deal but this one sure looks like it'd be a fun car!
12:1 is entirely doable on pump gas depending on altitude and cam shaft design, among other things. And as Dano mentioned, the aluminum heads definitely help.
Plus it would be easy to convert to E-85 on that car. I’m going to run a 13:1 Buick 350 on e85 in my Regal.
