    It's Finally In!!

The 350's out and the 455's in! :beer !
Ended up using cast iron 455 pads (out of what originally I don't know) and drilling my own holes, using the Centurian pads as a template.(cause they just set the engine up too high in the cradle) I'm working out some of the "back together" bugs but nothing major. Now just needs an exhaust system from the manifolds back. Any good sources? Thanks for everyones help. It definitly came in handy :TU: I CAN NOT WAIT to :3gears:

    Yeah Baby...

AIR PUMP... Yeah right!! We don't need no stink'n air pump! The only things that stayed were the P/S pump and the COLD blowing A/C. I used all the brackets from a spare 76' block. I kinda half-as#ed the exhaust for now just so I could take it for a ride. WOW!! I forgot how that BBB torque felt! Bone stock 70' SF 455, TH-350 with a 2000/2200 stall, Trans Go shift kit and a 3.42 Posi rear. Now the worn 350 ran a 16.0 at 89 mph. and this set-up is much faster just by the "seat of the pants" feel. Well and of course the SERIOUS burnout marks left behind, even on a roll! Man it pulls hard :3gears: I couldn't wipe the grin off my face. I've gotta hit a drag strip before they close for the winter. I'm really hoping for 14's at least. We'll see...Tim

tim you should have no problem being in the 14s, my last 74 century i did had a stock 72 455 motor, turbo 350 tranny and 342 gears my best time was 14.69,did your car come with 342s or did you put them in.im actually hoping to be in the 13s with the century i have now.guess i wont know until i get the posi in there.my combo now is 10.07 compression, stock heads, perfomer intake,750 demon carb,2 1/4 inch stock exhaust,ta212 cam, stock hei,oh and by the way it gets great gas mileage. NOT. i got 400 miles on rebuild and im getting 9 miles to gallon.but sometimes my foot is alittle into the carb.by no means am i beating it since it is new.gotta get a couple more hundred then the beating comes. see yah Ray

Hey Ray. The car originally had a 3.08 open rear. I build differentials for people so I had some good used 3.42's out of a van and a like new Limited Slip out of a rear I parted. I probably could've stuck with the 3.08's for mileage but 3.42's are liveable for where I go with it. Made it to a dragstrip on Friday (Norwalk) for the last "test-n-tune" of the season. My first time out with this combo. It rained out before I could ever hit the track :ball: Then I went again on Sunday for the "Halloween Classic" warm-ups. It was packed and they were only running 1/8 mile because of a supposedly wet "top end". I only got one run in and it stunk! :af: I'm not used to launching it obviously, and spun off the line. Crappy reaction time too! I left after a hour of watching some racing. On the way home my temp gauge started rising from the nice 180 it has been to 200 then 210 then 220 well you get the idea. I got it up the road to the first gas station and got the hood up. Everything was soaked with coolant and the BRAND NEW waterpump was just puking out the weep hole. I was pi**ed off to say the least! Let it cool some, got as much water in it as I could and limped it about a mile down the road to a friends house. He trailered it back home for me. The head and exhaust manifold paint are discolored so I know it got hot, about as hot as I was! It seems to be running fine but i'll know for sure when its back together. Later.
