I have a 74 Electra 455 engine that is currently all stock with the exception of a 600 cfm Edelbrock carb (electric choke). The engine is in a 70 Pontiac Grand Prix. Before you shoot me, I am a Buick man at heart. Anyway, I am thinking that the 600 may not be big enough for this engine. I don't know a great deal about it though, only that specs say it didn't have much HP in '74. I would really appreciate your thoughts on this carb and anything else you can enlighten me on concerning this engine. Thanks
The engine would probably be happier if placed in a Buick; and much happier if a Buick quadrajet was sitting on top. Chances are good the owner would also be much happier if the carburetor were changed. Jon.
I would tend to agree (about the engine's home). I happened across this car on ebay and figured why not for the money. I bought it for the engine, but don't mind the rest of it. What size should I go with, maybe a 750cfm? Any idea what the HP would be on this engine? A friend told me around the low to mid 200s. That sounds crazy with a 455, but I guess with emission controls and all it is possible.
