No Air and a rod knock this time of the year in Florida? I doubt he could give it away, he'd have much better luck up north

Car looks very clean and so so few were 4 spds after 1978.

I don't know if he will sell it.....been for sale for the last 9 months to 1 year.

I might go look at it and see what it looks like in-person.

I would buy it at that price in a heartbeat.

I would probably put the numbers matching worn out motor in the garage and give it something with a little more go than a 305 and drive it like I stole it.

wont be selling it down south with no a/c........to me it sounds like a money pit the size of the movie. id rather spend 15 on a car thats more done and been someone elses pocket and headache....sorry in a crappy mood.

Yeah, if I had the money I'd buy it and drop in the 455 I have out of a 73 Riv. That would confuse or annoy most Pontiac fanboys.

What does the decal say on the shaker?

I would have thought a Pontiac 301 would have been stock

I believe your correct. Both turbo and non turbo.
But I think the 305 in 81 was also an option and was always matched to a four speed in the U.S. models.

Does the decal read 5.0 liter?

Can't say I have ever seen one in person.

I tried to enlarge the picture and clean it up but it was pixelized(?) bad, it sure look like 5.0 but I can't swear by it. After looking at it a while if it were cheaper it would be a fun ride with a real motor in it but not for that price. Oh ya not without air.

i think the 305 was the motor for Ca emission cars , at least in the 77-79 cars it was , maybe with the 4 speed you could only get the 305.

"Clean NY title...." explains the non-a/c. Rare doesn't always mean desirable. There's a reason why very few bought them back then, the same reason why no one buys them now. A complete embarassment to the Trans Am name.

My buddies in high school had 4 of them...one was a 78 and the other three were 79 models.

My friend still has the 78 with a Pontiac 455 in it now, the 400 is still on his engine stand since 1986.

The 79 models had the Olds 403 and were nice cars.

I mentioned this car because so few had 4 speeds and I agree it is over-priced....that is why
its been on CL for 9 months +.

I thought with a Chevy 350 transfer and some clean-up would be a nice driver. I looked on Ebay and
several Pontiac sights...not one for sale that was a 79-81 w/4 spd.

If I have some free time this Sat, I may go check it out.....not gonna sell at $4000-4500..more
    like $2000-2300.

Not all had the 403 - my son just bought a numbers 79 TA with a Pontiac 400, 4 speed, A/C. Pontiac stopped building the 400 in 1978, so the engine was a leftover. If the shaker decal was TA 6.6L, then it was a Pontiac 400/4-speed car. If the decal said 6.6 Liter, then it was a 403 Olds/auto car.

It's hard to believe this is a car site with some of the comments.
No AC? I would bet there are thousands of non AC hotrods people paid high dollar for in those hot environments that people buy because they like them.

Rod knock? It's just a small block chevy!
