I bought a 88 Brougham with the computer controlled Q jet. When I bought it the engine ran perfect and idle was smooth as glass. It ran well at all operating speeds.

The intake manifold was leaking oil out the front so I removed the intake to replace the gasket... No oil leaks now however something is wrong since it idles at about 1700 rpms. Since there are about 25 vacuum lines it is possible somethign got mixed up although I labeled everything and it looks correct.

I have not got the timing set yet, it is hard to start and because of this I can not get the initial timing set. I had to remove the dist to get the intake off and I must have put it in one tooth off. I am thinking this because it acts too far advanced even when I turn the dist all the way retarded. I am going to pull the dist and try it one tooth retarded. On the plate above the rad it says "set timing at 20 degrees with rpms at 1100 in park". I need more clearification though, maybe there is a factory manual I can find to get the tune up details.

Because this carb has the TPS, o2 sensor , and computer I am a total newbie to tuning this car.... I am used to the regular Q jets.

If anyone has any tips or references please pass them allong! I am going to read in my Q jet book by Doug Roe about these computer carbs right now...

Well good news! I found a 1988 Cadillac Brougham Service Repair Manual on e-bay for $8. It is kind of exciting learning about this car!

I missed your first post Sean,I would have suggested the factory manual.

The engine is a 307 Olds, the car has 23,000 miles on it and I got it for a few hundred bucks! The 307 is a funny version, it is revised with TINY intake ports for better fuel milage and it really works! I got 28 US MPG on my trip home with the car (about 200 miles). The engine lacks any real exciting power however for a cruiser it drives well! I have never driven a vehicle that is happy between 1300 and 2000 rpms on the road, this one is and it feels strange. The engine does not bog down it just chugs allong. The rear end is about 2.41 and the trans is a 2004R so the car easily gets up to 100 mph with low rpms LOL!

I have always been curious about these late Q jets ran by computers, it is kind of like the very last chapter of the Q jet saga. Not much for performance however cold starts, fuel milage and throttle response are top notch. I am enjoying this car so far but will sell it since I have WAY to many vehicles.
