    Hi,

I'd like to get first in line, but need to know the gear ratio it's for and if you know the condition of the posi clutches and so forth. Thanks.

Hi Jim, How does one go about knowing what ratio it is for? The number on the posi is #761 if that helps, clutches ,dunno as far as I know these things last forever, lol Been racing my 3.42 one for a few yrs in my heavy grandville 60 fts in the low 1.7's! and before that it was sitting in riv for 10 yrs, just replaced the gear oil and went racing. I believe u can use the newer clutchs packs that are available for the corporate 8.5 's? There is a guy on here that has done that with great success..

I had hoped it was impossible to wear out or break one of these units, but I think the posi 3.42 I've got in my Riv is pretty weak...almost no torque needed to break a wheel loose while it's sitting on jackstands. I'm not sure about the 8.5" thing, I think that may pertain only to the 71-76 units (if I'm reading the posts correctly). But according to the long series of posts on the 9 3/8", the carriers would be different between the 67-70 and later years, and also between the 3.23 and lower (numerically) and the 3.42 and higher ratios. But you may be right, that the clutches and maybe even the Eaton springs and plates might work in my carrier. I think I'll look further into that, and also bring this back to the top for you in case anyone else is interested in the posi you've got for sale. Thanks, and hopefully it is impossible to break or bend one of these things!

Well hell, Grandville, I didn't see that you'd posted pics when I replied. The posi you've got there is, I believe, the 71-76 unit. I was looking for the 67-70 setup, so I guess I'm out on this one for sure. Thanks again, though.
