Sorry it's not Buick, but I am a Buick guy in need of help!

The A/C in my truck has a big leak. Add a can of freon and it stops cooling in five minutes. UV leak tested all parts that are visible and nothing shows up. A leak this big would have to be the evaporator. Correct?

Could someone walk me through the process of replacing this evaporator?

    BTW Ranger Forums Suck:Dou:

I don't remember all of the details, but the evaporator on your truck is serviced from under the hood. Lucky, because many vehicles require totally removing the instrument panel.
Look closely. I "think" you can split the evaporator case without removing it from the firewall. This is not a common leak point on those trucks so it's been a few years since I've done one.

Before you condemn the evaporator, remove the accumulator (the metal can) and peel off the insulating foam. They are very prone to rusting through beneath the foam.

With a leak that big you should be able to hear it hissing. Try pressurizing the system with shop air at 90-120psi then listen for the leak.

I finally found the leak. It was on the very bottom of the compressor where the two halves come together. It only seemed to leak when the system was fully charged and running. Replaced compressor and has been well since Monday. I had not found this leak when I wrote this thread, so I had assumed it was the evaporator.

Luckily my accumulator had been replaced in the past, and the previous owner did not put the "death wrap" back on.
