at the shop I work at we use screens that press into the ac line at the compressor (inlet side) this prevents any material from getting into the compressor- we don't replace a pump w/o putting one in (no mods required they just press into yhe line)(acdelco is one provider of these screens) kit has tool to press screens in and many different sizes of screens to fit most applications only takes about 1 minute to install once line is unhooked from pump
