Sean, Remember if you reuse your old cam and lifters to put them back in the same holes. They develop a wear pattern.

OK. That intake could save you a lot of work though.

Yup, kept lifters organized/matched with cam.

Intake. We have a mill here. Good Sunday afternoon project to open it up. Shouldn't be too bad.

I kinda recall reading the alum intake having water passages between the carb bores. Port or mill it out and you hit those passages. Can someone confirm?

Sean, Port injection likes a cam with a minimum 112 lobe center. Holley Sniper TBI would work better for your cam.

Mmmmmm. I'll have to work will the water passage. I can tig it up if I have to. I'll post some pics of it when I dig into it. I don't have the hood clearance for a spacer at all.

Here is what is required to use the late Rover or TA/Rover heads on the 300 or 340. This cavity needs to be filled to give a sealing surface for the head gasket.

I chose to heliarc the modification, I expect JB weld would work nearly as well. First I made filler pieces.

Which I then welded into place and worked down flat using an angle grinder, die grinder and file. Surfacing the heads afterwards would be the best thing to do.

Leaving a surface to clamp the gasket. In this case I simply added a smear of gasket maker when bolting the heads up. Should work fine.

The TA heads appear different than your head pictured.

Yes they would be. My TA heads are still on the block. The photos are of the late Rover heads but the same corner needs to be filled. I'm waiting to do mine until I'm done welding up the intake.

Is there a 300-340 MLS head gasket available with a bore bigger than 3.8 inches? Biggest I've found so far is 3.779

Cometic can make some for a price.

Here is another look at a '64 intake if you plan on making a single plane with it. The water passages do get exposed when you open it up. We welded it up and smoothed it back out in the mill. Truck is just about ready for the engine. Hope to it back in a few weeks. '64 300 with a 350 crank.

What connecting rods and pistons did you use? Should post build specs here for others to follow.

Should be a nice combination. And compact

Hmm... cutting the dividers out doesn't make it a single plane, and I'm not sure what you will have accomplished by doing that. The whole reasoning behind that intake style in the first place was to get some separation between the #5 and #7 port runners so you don't lean those out by stealing the charge from each other. Sharing a common plenum may not be the best idea. But hey, give it a try. You can read the plugs to see how they are burning.

Can you give more details about the welding? How did you prep it? Any preheat? Did you weld in a plate or just built up welding rod?

Glass beaded the intake and preheated it. I believe he just built it up with weld.
