I have a 70 electra ac car. 455. I cannot figure out why my vents wont switch over. Its stuck on the floor. I would rather it be stuck on the defrost. What can i do? Ive checked the cable that attached to the slide and its on. Thanks

does the system use vacuum anywhere to controll the doors? one possibility could be the door fell off inside the unit and is blocking the flow of air.

Your entire airflow system is controlled by vacuum chambers to divert the air where you want it to go. Either you've lost the vacuum supply from the engine to the control head or the vacuum switch in the control head is bad.
I believe the default (no vacuum) position of the air doors was "floor".

Look for a plastic "ball" or other "chamber" under the hood with 2 vacuum lines going to it. One line is connected to engine manifold vacuum and the other is the vacuum "supply" to the MVAC controls. The vacuum reservoir is usually on the right side of the engine bay, near the AC housing, but I'm not familiar with your Electra in particular.

I cannot tell you how many times I have knocked off those vacuum hoses on the plastic ball in the engine compartment.
