whats an acceptable tach for PS ? i need one that's more accurate than the Sun II POS presently in my car and i'd like something somewhat accurate and maybe with a built in shift light :Brow:
I run a reproduction half sweep Moon tach........ Went for the "look" over function.........seems to be a pattern
where did you get that and how accurate is it ? my present POS , in case you missed my ranyt , reads 3000 when engine is about 3800 ou: of course i don't suppose it has a shift light ???
I think that I have seen Auto Gage shift lites only that are about the size of a pen and I believe they use pills like MSD boxes. Replace one of your idiot lights with that and you would have shift light. I can't remember which speed catalog I was looking though when I saw that. Of course, most of my reading occurs just before I go to sleep.
I obviously have too much time on my hands! Just checked Summit Racing online and the parts are all there for the pencil/pen sized shift lite. Part number 5310 is necessary to plug the pills into, 5331 is a nice silver unit, pills are $28 a set. Total money necessary= $134 and you still don't know how fast your motor is running until you hit redline! ou:
It seems accurate..... o No: But really I have not calibrated it. I put a pencil shift light in the dash behind an unused idiot light........problem is the lense is too thick so I can't see it..... and it's a real pain to correct the problem. So it's been just a tach for me! ou:
thanks rusty , i'll look into something like that and brian i did a google and found the tach , and its only 70 bucks :TU:
Who needs a stinkin' tach!? I think it was JJ that said: "If you build it right, ya' shift it just before the valves float." Oh yeah.
I use a Stewart Werner shift light/tach combo, works great! Its the size of a normal shift light, but has the digital readout in the center, and an outer ring of LEDs for your shift light.Very nice!
Now you're talking. Fried the MSD 6AL this year screwing around trying to get this thing to run, so back to 60's street racing style, take a deep breath, get ready, and wait just a little more! Exhale if there's no clanking noises. :bglasses:
already did that , but i did find where the valves float , i'll see if theres any marks in the pistons when i pull the heads next week ou:
