Not sure if anyone is still looking for a 2 row 1" tube aluminum radiator. These have been out of stock since August.

Just got a call they got some in and ordered Rad, shroud, 2x 14"fans, and relay for $424

For a 350 - my trans cooler lines don't match up and it looks like the tubes are 1 3/8 not 1 1/2 - I wonder if I have the wrong piece, although the box says AE-161 from Jegs.

    Hmmmm

Thanks Kevin - I meant the radiator inlet and outlet tubes. In is 1 3/8 and the out is 1 1/2.

This is the second radiator I'll have to send back.

Thanks for the link for the cushions - if I get the correct radiator I'll look into them.

My upper and lower hose connections were both 1/1/2"

Maybe it was mislabeled and they sent you the wrong one, because it's listed as 1-1/2" for both.

What I didn't necessarily care for was the 1/16" hose barb to the overflow. The stock hose is 3/8"ID.

I found these online and they worked perfect along with a 1/16"nipple: https://www.fittings.space/hb32m-06-01zf

I ran a drill through the fitting to open it up as much as possible without messing up the threads.

Yes I replaced all 4 with those. Just trim a little at a time until they fit snug. They don't have the rubber detents that go in the hole (like the originals) to keep them from moving, so you don't want them loose.

Does the AE161 fit in a 1968 skylak (350) with minimal effort? Champion site suggests AE571 but it is smaller...

I do know the 70 trans lines are in a different location than the 72 trans lines on the radiator. I think the upper line is closer to the bottom line on a 70 radiator.

Well, they are still back ordered... so I need to wait till they are back or find another option that is affordable. Not many aluminum rad options at that price!

Did you ask them to put you on the waiting list? That's what I had to do. Waited 4 months!

When I posted this they had got around 100 in stock. People on the list got first dibs.

I need to pay up front to be on the list , not sure I want to do that not knowing how long I'll have to wait. They offered the 3 row they have but I don't have the part number and read a lot about 3 rows being less effective than 2 rows so.... not sure what I'll do .

That's what I'm seeing as well for the AE161. It is rated to cool 800HP. Backordered!

They claim the 3-row will cool 1000 HP and the 4-row will cool 1000+HP but the rows are much smaller, only .63" so I don't think they would be as good.

Bummer on a hot summer day. A buddy's old brass 4-core is running hot but we know it needs to be boiled out and checked.

That's a perfect example of a manufacturer misinforming potential customers. The whole point of using aluminum is so that you can use bigger tubes. Aluminum is stiffer than brass/copper, so bigger tubes won't balloon. Bigger tubes mean more surface area for better cooling. Brass/copper is actually a better heat conductor, so at some point, an aluminum radiator with small tubes is an inferior choice. I keep posting this as a warning for guys looking for a radiator in the hope I can prevent someone from making a mistake. One inch tubes MINIMUM, and NO MORE than 2 rows.

Larry, since you are a mod now can you not make a sticky for Radiators like your power timing thread? That way when this question comes up again you can just post the link instead of going through it all over again.

Yes, I can do that. I'll write something up.

Edit, found an article I wrote for our club newsletter. I copied and pasted it into a new thread in the FAQ Forum. I then made it a sticky.
