The GS Came with a T/A intake and a Edelbrock carb. The Edelbrock 14'' air cleaner hits the hood on the torque side .

The air cleaner is 3'' high with a 1'' drop . Just ordered a K&N filter assembly but only gain 1/4 '' !

Question: Anyone use cable restraints to hold the engine down ? Where do ya get 'em ? Seen them years ago when I worked at Chevy but really don't know now .

If I can hold it down it will be fine I think .

    Thanx to all !!!!!

    Bruce & Shirley ,

In my 462 Buford powered AMC Pacer I use a regular piece of chain, it was used before to lock my bicycle in Amsterdam (so that's quality chain!!)

The engine stopped from turning clockwise and hitting the hood, but under load there's this strange vibration/noise now. Think it's the tension on the chain?

Erik it could be. Have someone start the car and put the car in gear with they're foot on the brake and block wheels etc. Brake torque it a little just enough to torque the motor .

Could be many things like motor mounts , trans mount , u joints , cross member , and many more .

Check it out one by one .

I've seen the chain method and it would work but I'm thinking cable would be a "clean look ".

    Thanx and Good Luck

    Bruce & Shirley,

When the chain is disconnected, the noise is gone.
Motormounts are also brand new, but they are Japanes (of a Nissan Laurel)

Hmmmmm that should be it...Japanese rubber begging to stop the true torque :pp :pp :pp

LOL Erik !! Sitting here thinking ................... Chain chatter when under a load !! Try cable like Chevy did on a recall in the early 70's .

How did I know that ? I'm not that old already !:Dou: :gt:

Bruce, what you need is a torque strap. All the turbo guys use them to solve this problem. Neat and clean look. It is a nylon ratchet strap deal. I am sure wuth a little fabrication it will work on a GS. Cost like $30 and I can say from experiance having had a pretty stout GN.

Poston's (1-800-635-9781) has the torque strap for the Turbo cars, it is #PE849326, $28.88. They may be able to help with something for your 455 as well.
