I am fighting a bog, sputter on my 494 Stroker with 4 speed.

I have the air valve set as tight as I think I can without breaking the spring.
1.5 turns from where the spring engages or the blades shut on their own with engine off. Maybe I can go tighter?

Anything under 3k rpms she pops and bucks, then at 3k it goes nuts like it should.

I guess my question is should I tighten the spring more? I have herd about maybe a different vac pod or something?

    Thanks,

    Dennis

Replace the spring and the plastic cam.

Check the opening rate of the pull-off and to see if it holds vacuum. Opening too fast or too slow will cause a stumble/hesitation/bog on full throttle starts.

Check the link up to the secondary airflap shaft to make sure it holds the flaps tightly closed at idle.

Check to see if the POE tubes have fallen out of the airhorn.

Make sure the fuel supply tubes to the POE wells are open.

    Check the hanger height.

High HP set-ups that launch hard with good traction also need the venting in the airhorn blocked off/modified so they don't slosh fuel up out of the carb on hard runs. This scenario makes secondary tuning impossible unitl the problem is corrected. It's also the last item to address once you make sure you have good parts installed and correct settings of them......Cliff
