Finally, after all the troubles getting the new engine going. Changed out all the old gas, found a couple potential vac leaks that may have been giving me some trouble, and presto, some decent break-in time. Ran it about 20 min.'s at 2k till the temp started pushing over 200. Is that enough break in time? Everything looks good, oil pressure was running 50-60, no leaks, lotsa growl, need to work on the timing a little more and get a vacuum gage. But man, how long does it take all that new paint to fire on? At this moment I'm a happy man, now to find the correct power steering pump so I can get it on the road. Thanks to those that chipped in their advice and patience to this older rookie:TU: :beer
Break in time That is enough time for the cam to break in. Make want to take easy on for a while to make sure the rings are seated in. JMHO
If you haven't done it already, change your oil filter and top it off. The break-in lube from the cam will clog a filter in no time!!:Smarty: When you take the car out, make sure you don't stay at any one speed...better to hit the back roads, so you can vary the speed/rpm's. Helps the rings to break in better. Keep an eye on the guages....and have fun!!:TU: :bglasses:
I had a bad connection in the plug that plugs into the HEI cap. Cleaned up the terminals, found a major leak in the corner of the intake end rail. When I fired it up I thought it was going jump out of the car. Timing was about dead nuts, still some tweaking to do but sounds sweet. I may have a carb for you Rick, depending on how soon you need one. I've got a 750 Q-jet on there now that came off my 350. I'll be putting an 800 on that I put a kit in. PM me if your interested.
