Thinking about painting my edelbrock performer with rest of the engine to give a more factory appearance. What is the best prep for it. It is used, and is 20 years old with some.

Just degrease it real well, psi wash etc, glass bead if you want. Then just paint no real prep needed. You can use a primer if you want but engine enamel covers pretty well. But a light coat or two primer will make it happen faster for sure

Primer is a waste. Just clean and paint. I have done it.

I used some oven cleaner and a wire brush blew it off with air hose and spray away

The benefit to priming is it will cover much faster which also keeps tbe film thickness down making slightly less prone to chipping either way works

I like to use vht paint on all engine parts, seems to not discolor from the heat, especially if you still use the crossover.
