I have devised a cheap and easy way to filling the rear end with fluid! I cut the bottle cap nipple flush with the bottle cap, and pushed a piece of 3/8 x 16" long hose throught it so it submerges about 3/4 the way into the bottle, and long enuff from the top so the end will have plenty of room to reach the fill hole in the diff. Next put a 1/4 hole in the top of the bottle, and use an air hose with about 5psi and pressurize the bottle and the fluid will flow smoothly and cleanly into the diff. I think i'm gunna patant it! Just be carefull on how fast you put air in. Even 5 psi can be dangerous, as the plastic bottle may explode.:eek2:
you can also put the fluid in a ziplock bag (the older kind without the plastic zipper) and put the bag in the cover, put the cover on, it will obliterate the bag leaving the fluid.
Yeah, and after all that lube gets in your hair and all over you, you should smell really nice!!!:Brow:
It's the one using the "bag o' fluid" that really gets me!--that is a hell of an idea. Do they make one big enough to get the amount in there to fill it? Freezer bag version or regular? Seriously, very ingenius. Patton
I would like to thank you for the concern of my well being and that of others. Actually, 5psi is barley enuff pressure to push the gear oil out. I used 15-20 psi with no problems with the bottle. The first place air escapse from is the threads of the cap, and then the hose wants to thrust out of the diff. housing. I tested the bottle, and it will hold 40 psi EASY, and thats when the 3/8 hose starts to slide through the hole in the cap. I was also thinking of welding a fill hole direclty in to the cover too. I think I put myself in more danger driving on US19! Have a nice day! Dean
You know what would work even better? I have an a/c flush bottle that you fill and then apply air pressure to. When you squeeze the trigger of the blow gun on the end of the hose, the flush comes out under pressure. You could fill it with 90W and when you are done flush the container with mineral spirits, which is what I use to flush a/c lines anyway. Thanks for the idea! I just put synthetic in mime, I'll be doing it this way the next time if I need to.
Go to Harbour Freight and buy (cheap )a suction device which looks like a giant hypo. With the T handle you can suck the oil into the reservoir and then squirt it back out the flexible tube into the hole in the side of the hogs head. You can use it over and over for this and the Muncie.
I used to have one of those, and it was hard tu pull when sucking up 90W. One day, the handle pulled right off it so I chucked it in the can.
Just use one that will take the right amount of fluid, you can also use the kind that you tie off (they're bigger)
I recently used Mobil synthetic and I didn't find it difficult to fill through the fill plug. The top on the bottle fit right in and I squeezed the bottle to force the fluid into the diff. The synthetic flows easier and I thought the whole job was relatively easy.
i dunno, i got a pretty strong grip, i think id rather save time and just squeeze the bottle...... but, good idea i might add......
