I agree. I like to see really rare cars, like a GSX, original. However, some cars..like a 32 Ford or a 50 Mercury just don't look right unless they have had some work. We wouldn't have Hot Rods if they all were stock. I heard China loves BIG Buicks.
I started this thread and was talking to one of my stevedores this weekend discussing old cars leaving the country and he swears up and down that the Buick was an import from Europe and saw it being driven off the vessel in Galveston, so never mind! Title revised "Another classic Buick heading home.:beer
And I think he may be right, when a car or truck or heavy equipment is parked facing south and away from the vessel, which is was, it usually means it came off the vessel. If it is parked heading north towards the vessel it means it going to be loaded.
So I hear all the cool kids rock those things nowadays! :TU: ...Nope, still not home. I am sitting in Kuwait waiting for a broken down DC10 to get bubblegummed back together... /threadjack KFD
Oh well sometimes it is the other way around; like this classic DAF wagon for sale in the USA.... we scrapped them here in the early eighties in our version of Demo derbies: Reverse Racings with some sort of ski-jump on the finish line; due to the variomatic transmission those cars were as fast driving forward as in reverse, nowadays a rare object on the roads here : See 2;58 for a Chevy almost killing someone and spot the Century later on <iframe width="425" height="349" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/S7ipFApsFec" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Later on in this video there's another 'sport'.... trailer racing with US cars being favorite for the drivers
that guy in the end was p****d his car did not work. i remeber seeing these races on british telly and they were using ford capris and trailers. what a shame now these cars are young timers but back then who know they would be collectable
Eric that is COOL. A 73 Century GS hauling/racing with a motor home attached. Wonder if that is still around?:3gears:
I bet if you took that "Reverse Racing" video and played it backwards, so that the cars looked like they were actually going forward, it would be pretty funny.
Not A Buick but My son and I had a 66 Impala ss that we just sold yesterday. The consignment lot called and said it sold and he was shipping to LA and it was going out of the country. Kinda bitter-sweet glad to sell and got what we wanted but knowing once its out of country it will probably never be seen again. I do have good faith that who ever bought it will preserve it as they have invested a lot between buying and shipping.
Yeah, you will see the car at least once a year when it was sold to a new owner from Florida.....
Glad you know my travel schedule Erik:moonu: Is that just for this year or forever? I notice you didnt quote me saying " I have faith it will be well preserved"
I have no problem with a classic Buick or any other American car going overseas. I try not to have a double-standard. If I could find an affordable decent Reliant Robin, (some will say that is a contradiction in terms) I would try to get it here from the UK. BTW: There are a lot of what they call "American Beauties" in Finland.
