Ok my parents need the garage space so my 68 Rivi has to stay outside. They want to buy a Steering wheel lock but I believe that will actually make people want to steal it!

Ok I have heard of kill switches, any recommendations?
Also the Grant steering wheel kit seems like a better choice.

    Any other deterrents?

    ANOTHER THING!

I would really like to know if there is a type of hood lock since Rivi's can be opened from the outside. I don't want vandals messing with my car or to have my Jet Performance Stage 2 stolen.

    Thanks

a column lock is what you want with a big masterlock on it.
If they can't peel the column, it can't be stolen unless by tow truck.

A kill switch can help too but they will pell the crap out of it first, then find out it won't start.

I have the buckets with center console so the switch is dash mounted. Unless I don't fully understand how it works. A fuel shut off valve? That was another one but where to put it.

Oops I forget about that. Boy I miss having a key in the dash.
    Its so much cooler.

Id go ahead and do the grant wheel with the locking cover first.
But a good alarm with shock sensores and insurance that will cover theft is a good idea.

And make sure its stated value insurance no up to.

Like take out $20,000 on it and not and up to $20,000 but you get the full 20 if its taken, not what they think its worth up to 20.

Little pricey, go on line and get a police boot. I finally bucked up and got one. I get the strangest looks at Buick events when I boot my own car. Even one time at Buicks at Norwalk event a local cop called in my car and told me he thought they booted my car. Mine has a felt liner so it won't scratch up the wheels. I also got their pick proof lock. The link is below.

I also have a link to another device. It is a tazer steering wheel club. It mounts on the wheel just like the Club. It has a ear piercing alarm along with a tazer like shock when the device is touched. The alarm is also a great warning just in case you forget the system is activated. It is motion activated and it comes with a remote controler to activate it. I haven't bought this one yet, still on the fence. Scroll down the web page at the site below. It sells under $300.

Another way is a simple toggle switch hidden inside your car that grounds the ignition system from simple wiring. When activated the engine will not start. Real cheap and real simple.

    Use a combination of things.
A club like device is good.
I REALLY like the boot idea, but..ya know...it's a BOOT! :pp
You may be able to sticker/decal it up to look pretty cool.
Even paint it Buick red and put some buick badges/logo's on it.

If you have electric locks (or not) consider a 2 way remote alarm.

You may not be able to use the remote start feature, but you can use the other stuff.

Thanks, yea there's another rivi down the street but it's not in running condition, everyone around my neighborhood knows That mine is and there has been a lot of activity lately. My dad had his tool box open, moms honda open and left like that, and 3 attempts at stealing my parents 2001 durango, the only reason they can't get it is becasue the alrm goes off and I'm the first one out. I almost chased a guy to the park but in boxers and no shoes, not a good idea, he also headed for the park which is dark. Makes me want to buy some protection or atleast keep the paintball gun handy on full pressure to ward them off!

My original plan was the alarm system with the pager remote I think it's the viper one. It pages you when it is being messed with. and then A GPS tracking device with no monthly fees on ebay. You just pop open google maps! and do the justice yourself or send a cop their way becasue it's real time.

If you are running points, simply run a wire with a switch inline from the - side of the coil to ground. With the switch on, the engine will not start.

Yup! :TU:ha don't some swat people have those?
Ok for sure there will be a kill switch. Thanks for the info. The only thing I can't protect it against is vandalism, A 70 mustang around the block had its window broken, then a week later the whole windshield, it wasn't even moving around, it had been parked for a while.

if your storing it and not driving regularly why don't you remove the coil or other critical part.

I was thinking about that but I just got new tires on it and have been moving it around like 2 or 3 times a week to work, I use a more economic car for school. Taking the coil wire from the rotor was also another idea

Older GM vehicles from the late '60's and early '70's (all of the '70's and '80's basically) have steering column designs that are extremely easy to defeat. As a former Insurance Fraud Investigator who dealt with both modern and classic high-dollar cars, I have always been fond of the simplicity and effectiveness of inexpensive and hidden kill swithes - either one for the electric fuel pump on newer cars (and older cars if retrofitted) and coil ground on older cars. The switch can be hidden in a place only you know about.

I will also tell you that if I ever have to park my GS in a place I am the slightest uncomfortable with, pull the coil wire and stuff it in your pocket - nice that our Buicks have distributors in the front and the coil wire is very short.

Yea as for today, Halloween night! I pulled the coil cable, but I plan on adding a kill switch, it has no pump, only 69 had the fuel pump, but I can still get a shut off valve right? I'm leaning towards the grant steering whell kit also. Yup sure is nice having the distributor in the front.

Also a kill switch you can turn on and off without a person in the car next to your figuring out is a good idea. Put it in a place where you often put your hand when getting in and out. So its also 2nd nature for you and no one is the wiser.

And with the radio shack gadgets it can be a real tiny micro switch, that trips a relay that tosses a bigger elec switch.

i currently have a colum lock, and will be buying a gorrilla grip 3 club lock(built in alarm)..
i'm also thinking about a magnetic pickup killswitch for the ignition (either carry a magnet or have one in the car)and another killswitch for when i put my electic fuel pump installed

on my elco I have a 2 nipple key pad kill switch, sorry I dont know the brand but it is awesome. Its hooked up to an alarm system so there is all the goods of shock sensor and glass breakage. The coolest part is that it has an anti car jack sensor on it. As soon as the doors are open while the motor is on, if you do not enter the code the car will die and the alarm will sound. I think its within 45 seconds. At first I thought it was kind of a pain, but in case of emergencies I know my el co wont leave my sight.

On my GS I have a kill switch mounted in the trunk.

Thirdly, you can get yourself a 130 lb rotty. My big baby works everytime

Model year 1970 Riviera also had the electric fuel pump.

I always disconnect the HEI connector at the ignition, but leave it in place without the pins touching the contacts.

Also put the LPG/Petrol switch in the car in the middle position (this means no fuel) and open up the manual air valve at the LPG mixer which you use to run the car on petrol.

There is no petrol in the tank, and the car will not start with this choke open on LPG.

I also put the parking brake all the way down
(Dutch joy-riders don't have a clue how a parking brake on an American car works)

So these are 4 simple solutions to make it difficult for a car thief that's in a hurry.
