Joe I used it to paint my 53 Chevy last year. The paint is pretty good but I picked a color that was a heavy metallic and took a lot of paint to cover evenly. The clear is very nice and goes on very easily. I'm not a pro and this was my first paint job and it turned out pretty good. Just follow the instructions and make sure everything is very clean and you should do just fine. I'm probably going to paint the wife's 71 Skylark Convertible with the same paint (Stratomist blue). I used all the Omni line (primer, sealer etc.) and was very happy with it. Here's a pic for ya. :beer hope this helps.

The PPG Omni line is a good lower cost paint and will give you a nice long life paint job for reasonable cost.I have used a lot of it and I like it.I also work for a body shop supply store as well.If use use the Omni line stay with the MTK single stage urethane or MBC basecoat lines.Stay away from the MAE enamel line as it doesn't hold up as well as the MTK and MTK doesn't cost very much more. You will have no coverage problem with black and most other colors.Willie is right about the Omni line of green taking several coats to hide;the green toners in the omni line do not cover as well as the other colors.I would use MC161 clear with MH168 hardner the factory calls for a mix of 2 parts clear to 1 part of hardner.I usaully mix at a 2:1:1 mix adding MR186 reducer this helps lay out the clear a little better;just be sure to apply a extra coat of clear if you reduce to get proper mil thickness of the clear.

    Hey Joe,
Glad to hear your project is still coming along good.
Too bad we didn't discuss paint in our e-mailing back and forth so we could have gotten you into R-M Diamont instead.

Thnx Willy, Rusty, and Tim. This Omni paint was at least half the price of their(Painters Supply) better paint. Does require more coats though. Using the Omni brand clear also. Was only $223.00 for everything. Josh is getting it all in a box, wrapped up, at his birthday party here today. He's 19 on the 10th. Will post some photos after it's all in black. Thanks again guys, Joe X.

I have used their primer and love it so far. I am going to start painting the jams soon with this line of PPG's products.

I am using their Fire Red color. (1972 code 75)

The only thing I don't like so far is the price of the materials now. It has been awhile since I bought any body shop materials. The prices :Dou:

    Will report the results.

Someone let me know some tips and tricks. :beer :TU:

Omni basecoats are pretty good, but as mentioned the coverage is not that great. However, you can usually buy like 2 gallons of OMNI basecoat vs. 3 quarts of PPG Deltron 2000 DBC Basecoat.
On some of the lesser expensive paint jobs we did we used Omni for the basecoat and then PPG 2021 clear. When all done, you can't tell the difference (put on a few years and maybe).

    $.02

Just finished the left front fender jams. The paint and clear is drying as I write this. I primered with their gray first and sprayed color in three light coats and it covered great. Hope the rest of the car turns out as good looking as what I painted so far.

This paint is so easy to use that even I did good with it and I have not painted in years. :TU:

the base coat you use is not as much a factor as the clear is ,when i paint my personal stuff i use a good high solids clear like the NEXA 854 . the OMNI clear is a decent production clear for body shops but it will not have the hold out {GLOSS} of a high solids clear . over time you will notice that the clear will seem to tighten up and dull out because of the low solids in it. if you're going to use that clear i would put on at least 4 wet coats to get the proper mill build after wet sanding ..just my 02 ...good luck ..mike
