Hey guys, i just picked this carb up to slap on my '70 350 with a '72 intake. I was told this came off of a '70 350, but after some investigation on the net, it looks like its a '68. I' not totally sure though. The number on the carb is in a circle on the back: 7037399. My question is about whether there is anything i should know about this carb before rebuilding it and slapping it on. Is it worth it? or is there some hidden information in these numbers that would somehow tell me that this is actually better used as a doorstop??

A correct carb for your car should be cheap enough. You might never get it to run right. You want a carb with a 7040 number for 1 1970.

i'd rather not spend the money on another carb if this one can work for me. thats what hot-rodding is all about, right? taking parts that were originally meant for a specific application and replacing them with parts that either enhance the performance or originality of the car. But again, does this carb have any inherent properties that would compromise it's ability to compare (performance-wise) to a standard 4bbl quadrajet for a 350 of that year?

I don't think that is a Buick carburetor. The throttle hook up looks different. Still, you should be able to make it work even if you need to rejet it. The 7040244 is the correct carburetor for the 1970 Buick 350-4. It had .069 main jets with 45B primary rods, and BS secondary rods.

It appears to be an early Buick q-jet. Several parts are missing, and the plastic fast idle cam is installed wrong. I'd say it's 1968 or 1969. The part number is located on the main casting, drivers side, right above the secondary throttle shaft.

There should be a part number, 7028244 (for example), followed by a Plant Code, and Julian Date.....Cliff

ok, so i read on a different forum that rochester did not always put the '70' before the other numbers on the carburetor. i found the code '29244KA 0219' on the drivers side of the carb. now, adding the '70' to 29244 gives me 7029244, which according to recarbco .com,
(take out the space) gives me a 1969 buick carb, non a.i.r., 49 state legal, with auto tranny. i like the sound of this number quite a bit better than the other number on the back of the carb that was stamped in a tight circle. so, with this new information, i shouldnt have any problem witha '69 buick quadrajet for my '70 skylark w/ '72 intake?

and thanks so much guys for the info! i'm learning alot from you guys, and i really appreciate it.
