They did sell a lot in the beginning. (‘71-‘73). Then the weaknesses of the unorthodox OHC aluminum mill became apparent. Crazy, they had an Iron OHV four on the shelf they could have used. Neat ads though, shows the “Francophone” tendencies of Quebec. They almost became their own country.
almost is the key word here ! Not only once but twice ! (80 & 95) Here are some 1928 ads ..... few months before the black thursday of october 1929 the market still going out strong in New-York !!
Back in the 60's with a Buick ad and 2 Canadian brands !! 1967 was the year Montreal held Expo 67 and celebrate the 100th ann. of the Confederation of Canada !
My dad had a Renault Caravel. It was a convertible and also came with a hardtop. It had the crank thing. It was stick shift. Much easier to push it than to try and use that crank thing. That was my first car in 1974.
Since we're on the topic Pontiac Laurentians, Parisiennes and Maple Leaf Trucks were assembled in Australia. Slightly cheaper import duties from a fellow Commonwealth member country.
I have a French friend who says that even the actual French get a laugh out of Quebec. They say the Quebecers try harder to be French then the French do. In Quebec the stop signs say "Arret", in France they say "Stop."
That's funny, I don't see that this way at all ... We are "french Canadian" not French and even less trying to be . French think they are "cool" with their "english" (from England) expressions but they're not lollll
