    Dave,

Good to hear that the operation went well :TU:

Was talking with the taxi driver on the way over to the hospital yesterday and told him I really liked their license plates. "One Happy Island" on the top, and Aruba on the bottom. He asked me for my room number and two used plates were under my door here at at Marriott when I got back. Like I say, neat place.

"travelers' insurance" is a must anytime you leave the states.
Like most insurance it usually just a waste of money until you need it.

    45K plane ride, OUCH

Find a military or other flight like a large charity org?

I'm in Canada mind you, but I have travel insurance on my credit card - covered anywhere anytime. insurance is a must these days - mostly to cover what others will do:eek2: !

I'm sure that Dave will have the best travel insurance possible the next time he and his wife are travelling abroad, so maybe we can leave this subject alone now ?

Little gestures like that sure make a difference every time you look back on a holiday.
(not sure how you will remember this holiday, because of the accident.
But if your wife recovers without any problem, in the end you will remember all the good things)

I have a sister who spent 10 years in Costa Rica. When it comes to routine medical problems (I don't know if a broken hip is considered routine....) she insisted that the health care in what is essentially a third-world country is actually better than in the US. If nothing else, it's less expensive.

It's good to hear everyone's in good spirits, Dave.

    Dave,
Just found out about this, sorry to hear about it. Sounds as though it's working out anyway.

Gee, Dave, you sure know how to show a girl a good time on vacation!

Hope Jan heals quickly and you get her home without further incident.

Medical care is limited outside San Jose and according to mdtravelhealth "Serious medical problems will require air evacuation to a country with state-of-the-art medical facilities."

Inoculations for Typhoid, Malria and Diptheria are needed.

    Yep...lots better.

Vacation accidents are not fun, been there more than once. Dave, good luck with Jan.

This Aruba plate will be on her Escape as soon as we get home. I'm going to put the other on my F250. Even though we would have rather this not happened, there is a silver lining in everything and you think about what's really important. I never considered traveler's insurance because most of my travel was on business for Ford and they told us not to get it. I used to get accidental life insurance at the airport, but even stopped that. Highly advisable in the future and you bet we'll have it.

I do have to pay for everything myself before we leave.....I asked the doc what would happen if we couldn't pay...would you keep her? I have friends that might opt for that.....Fortunately, things are a lot less expensive here than home. I can see why so many doctors are giving it up in the U.S. and moving to these tourist supported locations to get away from insurance, lawyers, paperwork, and especially HMO's and other insurance programs that are getting to the point where they're no only questioning and advising doctors how to treat, but forcing it through non coverage.

I'm sure that doesn't apply to non tourist areas, hands down. My own doctor in Novi told me some time ago that a few of his colleagues there have already pulled up stakes after being recruited to foreign locations. He almost went bankrupt last year himself (after 20 years in his own practice) and considered it. When you work your ass off just to support someone else and the government pushes for more, why not, if you can do it?

Did I tell you about the climate and golf courses here??????No brainer.

Therapy starts today, hopefully it will go OK and she can get out Friday for one day here at the Marriott....

Had an incident with a rent a cop who tried to refuse me admittance to see her yesterday because it wasn't normal visiting hours. I was going in for a meeting with the surgeon in her room....guess who won that one? hahaha....

Got her back today. At least she'll have a coupla days here at the resort before we fly home Monday....It all has worked out as we knew it would. Everybody here has been fabulous.

    Thanks for the concern.

Good pass at this time, Lon, still a unique find.....3 red Olds Convertibles
(70,71,and 72), and the blue 70 442 HT. Especially that 71 SX convertible..A year ago it would be a steal.
