Anybody running ATF as a fuel additive? I talked to local garage and he said that it will eat O-rings and that it will make fuel look like it's off road fuel. Motor oil is not a good idea as well. So I guess we pay more for diesel and run additive
I think he's talking about diesel. I suspect that the new low sulfer mix that they sell is a problem the way that un leaded was when it came on? I'm not sure because I haven't had a diesel rig in a long time, but I know that when I read about the new fuel I thought it could be a problem for all the existing engines.
Yes I'm talking about diesel. I know of 3 trucks local that are running 1qt of ATF per 15 gal of diesel and 1 more that is running motor oil as additive. I guess they use to do this all the time back in the day. I'm going to run diesel additive only to deal with low sulfer
It's from the pump and a 02 F350 with a 7.3 I have been told that it's a good idea now that sulfer is so low Do you think additive is a waste of money? Please explain
I was curious too about why you would run ATF as an additive? I have a 97 F350 with 7.3 Power stroke. I contacted a local shop in my area once and asked about additives. I discovered cetane booster and was already using Lucas fuel treatment. I asked if it would hurt to mix them up. The guy told me the cetane booster would help a little, but told me the Lucas fuel treatment was a waste of money for the Ford injector pumps. The explaination he gave me was that Lucas works well on Dodges and Chevrolets because it helps lubricate the injectors and fuel delivery system. He explained that the Ford systems do not need the lubrication as they are lubricated by the engine oil. I do see a slight improvement of MPG when I use the cetane booster while pulling a load. I don't really use it when I'm not pulling something.
Thanks Cliff So that's 1 for no additive (if from pump) and 1 for cetane booster while loaded anyone else?
