:blast: Thanks Frank for making my day!!! I was starting to swallow the bait as a lot of it made sense. The thing that was setting off the alarm is that Lexus is the luxury brand for Toyota.

Dave and I have talked about it several times and we feel that GM jetisoned Olds to claim it as a business loss and help fund the forever bleeding red Saturn brand. Just think how all of those Saturn cars would look with Rockets on them.

What will probably happen is that the Olds name may be revamped, but it will come from China instead!!!! Buick is already getting a huge boost from its sales in China.

The one thing that everyone has to remember is that Ford and GM world wide are making money, it is just their North American operations that are f***** up!!!!

Sorry. I didn't mean to cross the line here on the Pure Stock forum by showing an Olds Rocket engine with HEADERS. So, to make it up, here is a Pure Stock Olds 455 with STOCK MANIFOLDS. However it does have aftermarket spark plug wires.........

...and the purpose of that radiator hose sticking out of the master cylinder would be ????? Guess you don't need one if you have the W07 radiator delete option. "A few of them may have got out".

At least the radiator hose isn't plumbed straight into the carburetor. I have a friend who attempted to drive his disabled, full-size van by removing the interior engine cover and pouring raw gasoline down the carb. Yes, it burned to the ground a couple blocks from his house, as he deserved.

Good friend at Olds Engineering had one of those 62 Lemans 4 banger 4 speeds with a 4 barrel that he bought new. It became a permanent lawn ornament in his back yard except for one weekend in the year. Opening day of fishing season. He'd drive it to St. Clair (where he grew up) and rented a raft overnight that was anchored out in the middle of the river. Huge current and a shipping lane for great lakes freighters. Guess he and his Dad did that when he was growing up, no thanks. They'd drive you out there, drop you off, and then pick you up in the A.M.

Big ritual at his house each year getting it prepped, and on the road for its journey from Lansing to St. Clair (where he grew up)and back. He drove it to work for the week prior (I think to enhance the drama). Took a few extra cases of Bud one year when he rebuilt the carb by putting it in his wife's dishwasher to clean it. When he put it on the car, we had soap bubbles coming up through it. No idea what it did to the dishwasher, his wife was always pissed at him back then, so didn't matter to him.

A coupla 12 packs later, and we tore it apart to thoroughly clean it out. He used Tide and a toothbrush and pipe cleaners that time. Pretty sure he had it nailed this time (no soap bubbles) but we couldn't get it over 25 or 30 mph no matter what we did. Found the jets from the carb on the window sill in the kitchen the next day after we gave up. Put them in and all was fine. Except it lost its prime overnight and the choke didn't work. So...

He filled his windshield washer bottle with gasoline and put the discharge hose through the aircleaner so it would pump a few shots of gas to prime it in the A.M. Worked like a charm.

That car would flat-assed fly when it ran right. That was the one half of a 389.

I'll betcha all the non Olds afficionados, (let's just call them the infidels), think that's a J2 engine from a 57-58. That would be wrong. The carbs look to be Stromberg 97's or Chandler Groves from an old Ford/Merc. J2's used Rochester 2 G's.

    OK, infidels, flame away!:moonu:

Why yes, it is. It's the W4.5 "points delete" option. Hahaha........

    Here's another J2 (actually it's a 394 with a J2 manifold modified to fit.

Black and red, no wonder you noticed it! :bglasses:

Do they make conversion kits for the control system on those retractables? I recall when they came out in 1957, a lot of them at the Ford dealer in Paducah that had all kinds of problems when they came in....like the deck lid cover wouldn't come down, and the tops halfway up. We saw them tow a few in like that.
