B&M Shift kit

I have purchased a B&M shift kit that I want to install in my TH400. Now, I have the choice of 2 different kits, a RV/ Heavy duty or a Street/Strip which shifts faster and harder then the Heavy duty. I've never installed a shift kit before, so I don't know what to expect.

Which kit would you guys recommend?
The car is a '72 Riviera which will be street driven.

    Thanks,

    Bram

I just put the same kit in my car this past summer. I used the RV/heavy duty and it seems just slightly quicker than factory. Iam going to change it to the street/strip setting.

    Dave,

Do you use the RV/Heavy duty kit on a heavy car like a Riviera or a light weight, like a skylark??
I think, you better use the RV kit on a light weight and a Street/strip on a heavy car? :Do No:

Greg Schmelzer What are you looking at?!

Bram, go with the 'street/strip' set up. You'll be happy with it. I installed one in a 727 in my old Polara with a 'slightly' warmed up 383 :Brow: Shifted firm and quick and had no problems what-so-ever. I will warn you ahead of time, stay away from their torque converters. They are junk!! Got a 3200 stall Hole Shot from them for the same tranny and the pump drive was off center and tore up the front seal in a short amount of time. I called them to warranty it out. They told me, and this is a quote, "We can't warranty it. You've installed it already." :af: Kiss my :moonu:

Anyone ever use a B&M "trans pak" instead of a shift kit?

I used it in a 67 Cutlass convertible with AC and power windows. RV/Heavy duty is just too lazy. Iam not looking to break the tires free, just need a little firmer shift. RV not cutting it. I have to wait till I get my motor back to try out the other setting.
I think you will be happy with the street/strip. Its not that hard, just messy. Auto parts stores sell a thin metal pan about 3' by 4' it will help catch the drips after the trans pan is emptied and removed. Only about $6 or so.If you run into problems put up another post. There are guys here that are much more inclined than me but Ill put my .02 cents in if I think I can help,Dave

I used that kit in mine.........I am happy with the Rv/ heavy duty. The shifts are firm and positive, but the WOT shifts could be a little firmer. I found that in L2 the 1-2 shift is much firmer at full throttle. I am afraid that I use the street/strip settings it will shift too harsh at light throttle. After, a Riv is supposed have smooth shifts. :bglasses:

15 years ago I put one of those in my THM 350, and used the "RV" settings...and have liked it a lot. At part throttle, it shifts nicely, but when pushed, it really grabs the next gear!

In my '71 LeSabre with a 350 engine, it has little trouble squealing the right rear tire when it goes to 2nd. But that's with an open 3.08 rear...

I think the "Street/Strip" would be too rough on those days when I'm tired and just want to drive home.
