Ahhh - our congress and legal system at work - in 1851!!!

Limitation of Liability Act of 1851 - Grace Ocean and Synergy Marine filed their petition under a 19th-century federal law that limits owners' liabilities to the post-incident value of the ship and the money owed for the freight onboard. The same rule was successfully used by the owner of the Titanic, which sank in 1912 during its maiden voyage. Grace Ocean, the vessel's owner, and Synergy Marine, the operations manager, are seeking to cap their liability at about $43.7 million.

Yep. Exactly what a mariner said on talk radio.

My little truck from Japan is going to skip Baltimore and will unload in Port Newark, NJ around the 10th. The person I talked to there said they are overwhelmed with cargo that was meant for Baltimore along with their own. They are opening and closing later as a result. She said be sure to be as early as possible. All that cargo for Baltimore has to go somewhere!

I'm pretty sure that the only ones on the bridge were the workers. The police closed the bridge within 22 seconds of when they were told to. Also, they said today that part of the channel is open so some ships can now use it.

Then why is the sonar picking up vehicles under the remains of the bridge? I am not understanding the reports and such..

    Apparently the construction vehicles.

They were filling potholes. Probably several vehicles required to do that.

    Also:

When people die at random in accidents like this, the cops generally receive a missing person report at some point from family or friends or coworkers of someone who never returned home or to work.

The lack of missing person reports means most likely no one died other than the six construction workers.

I think they'd know for sure on the vehicles pretty quickly since there's traffic cameras on the bridge. What went onto the bridge either came off the other side or went down. If you watch the video I posted early on, you can see a tractor-trailer & car pass over which I think were the last vehicles & they made off with only a few seconds to spare.

If you watch the bridge collapse video, you can see 4 or 5 construction crew vehicles on the bridge with their lights flashing as they fall into the water.

I am not trying to be a conspiracy theorist, I just am trying to grasp the thing of it..How unfortunate the whole thing really is.. I feel bad for the unfound and feel they may never be located.

They'll find them, but they are in 50 feet of water with a bridge on top of them.

If there is a bright light in all of this, it is that so far, it doesn't look as if the accident and subsequent bridge collapse were the result of someone doing something stupid. It seems that everybody was doing their jobs properly, and an unforeseen mechanical failure caused the crash.

My heart still hurts for the victims, just doing their job, AND the families who lost parents/loved ones:(

Don't know how true it is but I heard the tugs used to run alongside the ship until it was past the bridge but it was dropped in cost cutting.

Why has the FBI initiated a criminal investigation into the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore?

This is a NEW event and interesting.
The focus of this investigation is on the events leading up to the collision between the Dali ship and the bridge. Additionally, agents are examining whether crew members were aware of any serious problems with the ship before attempting to leave the Baltimore port.

The National Transportation Safety Board is also conducting its own investigation into the cause of the collapse and other relevant safety issues.

I get the National Transportation Safety Board is conducting an investigation. Standard procedure.
But an FBI investigation? Something doesn't smell right here when the FBI gets involved.
More to this story???? Can't wait to hear more details. Vet
