Huh, 71 is only year Stage 1 I never owned, wonder where this came from. Odd the code is 72 auto with CA emissions
Is the 2 at the end what makes it a Stage 1? 70: Rochester 4: 1970-1975 2: 1972 2: Quadrajet Federal Emissions (5 is for CA) 4: Buick 2: Automatic (my Riviera's # is 0 so is this what indicates it's a Stage 1?) MC: Broadcast code (what the build sheets called for) 1971: carb built on the 197th day of 1971 (as already mentioned, July 16, 1971 which was a Friday if that matters)
May/may not be too early for @donny1973's car. They probably didn't make many runs of '72 Stage 1 carbs and the one @grisby has is only slightly after Donny's car was built which IIRC was fall, '71.
My '72 Stage 1 convertible was built on the first day of production in August 1971 and it has the exact same date code, 197th day of 1971 (July 16, '71). Anybody have a list of the known date codes for '72 Stage 1 carbs? This July 1971 batch of carburetors may have been used for awhile since the '72 Stage 1s were relatively rare (728 hardtops, 81 convertibles).
I have a 7041242 for a '71, dated 1960, First day of '71 production? (not for sale) Who has a list of all the batch dates for these carbs? Troy
